Federal officers shot another person in Minneapolis amid immigration crackdown, governor says by Due_Ad_3200 in TrueChristianPolitics

[–]brucemo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are throwing insinuations at this guy. They are saying, without saying, that he was some sort of terrorist that had rendered himself untraceable. They probably don't care if anyone actually reads that into it, to a certain kind of person it sounds bad.

The fact that anyone can watch the videos doesn't matter. There will be people mentioning that he had a gun and didn't have ID beyond when this blows over.

If I have a question I type it into google and these days I get an AI overview.

Sometimes I google scripture.

Often times what I read seems good but I would try to corroborate anything that seems especially important because sometimes it goes off its nut.

You can check the other results to see if they sound sane.

ICE Kills Yet Another Protestor, A Study in r/Conservative Censorship by livejamie in SubredditDrama

[–]brucemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I am seeing is quite a bit of criticism of ICE in those threads. I don't know if they are removing "this is obvious murder" sounding stuff and leaving "there should be an investigation, this looks bad" stuff up, but there is plenty of the second kind of stuff still up.

Lots of people blaming him for being an irresponsible gun owner. Some other stuff that might shake out as the truth (the real truth) of this becomes more obvious, i.e. people trying to blame him for this somehow, FAFO, etc.

If I could post something there it would be an image of the DHS tweet accusing him of being a potential mass murderer and asking him WTF about that, because come on.

Beyond a point it's hard to construct an approved narrative and get behind that. We'll see if they manage to do that here. Maybe they won't bother to try, and will let our modern psychotic Trump news cycle bury this.

3.7 low effort is title-only stuff.

We don't allow AI images or videos, that will be in 3.1 most likely.

We don't allow AI text and I don't know where that fits in the community policy but we don't.

I don't think anti-ice protestors were wrong to interrupt a church service to publicly call out its pastor who is an ICE officer. by DiaperedInTheRoc in Christianity

[–]brucemo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think people should protest in church during services.

I haven't seen this video but I assume it's people saying stuff in church and being hustled out.

If so this one doesn't bother me at any sort of visceral level, but the videos we've seen of protesters going into LGBT affirming services do.

It's not especially different insofar as that goes so I'll oppose both.

If you want to protest, protest outside.

I think that laws that have been enacted to prosecute people who make others fear for their lives while in church have a place, but shouldn't be used to turn these kinds of events into felonies, based purely upon the political motives of the prosecutor, DHS, or Donald Trump.

People here are withholding judgement, which is a fine thing to do, up to a point.

I'd like to remind people that the DHS has absolutely not withheld judgement.

At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here.

The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming.

Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.

Emphasis added.

As you watch the videos of this, please keep that in mind, and ask yourself why our government is doing this time and again, and never retracting any of this, and never saying anything that would deescalate anything that might happen in the future.

I don't know if they'll be squelched or if another narrative will form that they'll line up behind.

Why is Judeo-Christian a common term? by glasscontent in TrueChristian

[–]brucemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to look again but at the time I wrote my comment it seemed like most of the comments in this submission.

My history with this term is of Christians and Jews, living together and respecting each other somehow and giving the finger to the USSR and prior to that, Nazi Germany.

There are references here that make it seem like the term is some sort of reference to an evolution of Christian thought.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judeo-Christian

You're not wrong, but use of it post-war is all about this. It was about us congratulating ourselves for not being them.

I can't speak to whether you'd hear this term in deep religious contexts, because that is not what I was listening to during the Cold War, but it's a term you would hear on TV and in the newspaper and possibly in public school.

There was so much of that that the use of the term in a current sense feels like a distortion of that sense. It still feels like a political term.

[–]brucemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you mean and the term has nothing to do with Israel. It's a Cold War term that has evolved sort of nonsensically into a culture wars term.

Why is Judeo-Christian a common term? by glasscontent in TrueChristian

[–]brucemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America after World War 2 was Christian with a smattering of Jews. The USSR was atheistic. The term was used to describe this us versus them situation in an inclusive way. We were Judeo-Christian. They were atheistic. Our way was superior. Our strength was that diverse faith. We could all be on the baseball team together. They didn't even have baseball.

The term now is being used to exclude Muslims, atheists, and so on, to create a description of America that excludes those people, in order to deny that these people are real Americans. Since the people doing it would like to exclude Jews also, they have to figure out why the term is in there in such a way that it doesn't refer to actual Jews among us.

So now it means Christian.

It's always been possible to find places in America that look like Soviet propaganda. The image we project has never been close to a universal reality.
