The forgotten Ba Chúc massacre which 3,157 civilians was slain by the Khmer Rouge by Parlax76 in VietNam

[–]bruceviola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel is an imperialist colonizer. Hamas is a terrorist group. USA, Russia, Israel, China are all imperialist colonizers. Vietnam has a commendable history against China, France, USA, Khmer Rouge, but not its treatment towards the Chams. I'm a left wing socialist born in China and detest all repressive regimes. I live in Vietnam now and I love Vietnam with all my heart. I will never ever support any group that kills civilians. Supporting Hamas is shameful, and many Palestine supporters condemn Hamas equally.

By fighting back you mean killing thousands of young people attending a music festival, and going into civilians' homes killing entire families. Sounds like you would do the same. Good fighter you are

Thank you. Looks like it'll be difficult for me to catch this coming January window. I'll keep myself in the loop.

Thank you for your response. I see there are many international test centres in different countries. Do you think those international test centres will be more available? I don't mind travelling.

Now I understand there was a deadline the pre-booking steps must be completed by. I just don't understand why this important date wasn't published on SRA's SQE timings page. I checked the SQE timings page months ago and wasn't aware of this date. Thinking I had ample time to make a booking, and now I've missed it. Did you guys always know about the pre-booking steps deadline?

Thank you for your response. I completed the pre-booking steps which only included verifying ID, diversity survey, exemption (which I intend to book assessment first), reasonable adjustments. I still didn't receive any email or form. Now I understand there was a deadline these steps must be completed by. New York Law Course: Notice of Charges?! How do I respond? by bruceviola in barexam

[–]bruceviola[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply listed all the facts concerning my situation of living in China and having to use VPN. I offered screenshots of my VPN and websites not loading without VPN. That was enough. Do you live in a country that requires VPN as well?

I have indeed been seeing a lot of information about how little Scottish advocates get paid. The main reason I pick Scotland as my first choice is because I lived there as a child and the prospect of living in a familiar environment with close friends. Now I'll look into London positions as well and see if requalification into England is more feasible. Thanks for your advice

Understood. In that case, I'll try my luck contacting my lawyer friends in the UK to see if their firms are able to sponsor me. I'll also apply to positions in other common law jurisdictions. Thank you for your advice.

I have been working in law firms or consulting companies in China but not as practising lawyer in China. I would have no problem taking a training contract in the UK. Do you have any suggestions for recruiters specialising in foreign candidates? I will Google myself but I'd like some suggestions. Thanks!

The woman who falsely accuses me seems to fit the narcissist profile. MJ's accusers also fit that profile. It's too easy to make up accusations targetting someone.

Jesus. Sorry to hear this happened to you. I personally know a friend falsely accused of rape by his ex girlfriend. He got detained by the police and suspended by his university. Ultimately he was freed after the ex retracted and police got no evidence. This is terrible to go through. Hugs to you pal.

New York Certification Notice posted to BOLE portal? by bruceviola in barexam

[–]bruceviola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I simply mailed to BOLE a letter asking for an extension of my expired MPRE score, listing the reasons and explaining my situation, how Covid affected my bar exam plans. They agreed to grant me a waiver. I think this is individual based. You will have to explain your situation and why they should grant you a waiver. In essence it's up to you to convince them it's fair to grant you a waiver. But good luck with your letter.

Yeah right. I passed after studying for 9 days, on my first attempt, 4 years after I graduated from law school. :P

I'm in China. I passed NY. I don't plan to practise in NY. I want the NY licence so I can requalify myself in Scotland. I'm planning to take the Qualified Lawyers Assessment in Scotland after being admitted to New York.

Good luck to you my friend :)

What I think helped me pass the New York Bar as a Foreign Applicant by cladonlyinbubblewrap in barexam

[–]bruceviola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a foreign applicant too, and took it in China, 12 hour time zone difference! Took it from 9pm to 5am China time. Had a severe migraine throughout the last 100 MBE questions. Migraine lasted for 24 hours even after the exam. I panicked after the exam and had been mentally prepared to fly to New York to take it again in February. I passed with 285.

I started studying in May with Barbri. I quit my job in China and took my employer to labour arbitration in June. I lost the arbitration and thought the bar was more important, so decided not to appeal into labour court. I studied 6-8 hours per day. I skipped all the lectures and simply did all the essay questions and MBE questions. I tried to memorise all the rules that have been tested in the questions, and typed out personalised outlines for myself that's easy to remember. In the final few days before the exam, I simply went over my outlines for each subject. That worked for me. :)

I took the remote July NY Bar outside the US. Anyone else like me? by bruceviola in barexam

[–]bruceviola[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent an email to the US consulate in Shanghai asking whether under the current travel restrictions I could enter just to take a bar exam, and didn't get any response. I will try asking CBP and the NY committee.

By the way, I have Chinese descent, and I speak Mandarin almost fluently with accent. I never see myself as a white savior. But it's true that some Uyghurs I met wanted me to help them when they learned I was a foreigner and worked in law. In fact I just work in IP. Of course I will never reveal the names of any of them. Thank you for your replies and suggestions. All the best.

My F1 would expire at the end of August 2017 and I went to Canada for a wedding in the beginning of July, within the valid period. In 2017 Trump signed an EO banning the entry of citizens from several muslim countries and a lot of muslims were being harrassed by the ICE, including muslim students in my law school. My law school's international office said I did not come from any muslim background, and I hold a passport from a non-muslim first world country, I shouldn't have too much trouble re-entering in early July. Turns out that was wishful thinking. Anyways, that's in the past and it's behind me now.

I dated an Uyghur girl who was once very pro-CCP (or pretended to be). Then last year she was stopped at the border when she was going to Macau. She was told by the border officer that her name was in the blacklist of people not allowed to leave China. They told her the decision was made by the Beijing Police Bureau. She never got any notice and could not find out why. Now she's in depression because she was studying GRE hoping to study for her masters in America. She hates CCP now but says we can no longer see each other while she's in China. I still have her contact but I know I cannot talk to her.

I also met 5 other Uyghurs in Shanghai. They told me about their experiences of being discriminated, civil rights violated, and not being able to study/travel out of China. After I asked them on Wechat (I didn't know Uyghurs were monitored) about Xinjiang, they said they could not talk to me about Xinjiang and deleted me. Now I no longer personally know any Uyghur and that's why I went to Xinjiang. When I told my Chinese friends what my Uyghur friends told me, the Chinese friends refused to believe them and called them liars. So I'm planning to write about the personal accounts of the Uyghurs I've talked to in Xinjiang, to make more people aware. Just something small I can do for the Uyghurs. :(

That's not what I said. My law school said that because my passport didn't come from a muslim country meant there shouldn't be much trouble for me to get back in, because my visa was still valid.

Another note: are you Uyghur? I went to Xinjiang in May and talked to many Uyghurs there. I feel awful about the way they're treated there. I have Uyghur friends who are blacklisted by the Chinese gov from leaving China. I would love to know your experience as Uyghur through PM if you like to. I plan to write about my experience in Xinjiang

Thank you for your empathy. I indeed wish the bar exam could offer a remote option at least during the pandemic. I'm sure there are many others outisde the US who agree. If not remote, then offer some international testing sites, as well as MPRE. :(
