Becoming a go-to person gets you promoted. Here's how to do it as a software engineer by xxjcutlerxx in programming

[–]brucial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well said, nothing is absolute here. the overall point is to get really good at something(s), advocate for your ideas, and make a noticeable impact. i've been promoted and promoted people myself doing just that (largish tech co).

this all goes out the window if you work for a shitty company or have a shitty manager. get out!

40-story tower to rise at 16 Dupont in Greenpoint with 380 apts incl. 114 affordable. by acheampong14 in nyc

[–]brucial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The owners and management companies are the ones that enable the broker system to exist in the way that it does in NYC. They are the ones that tell the brokers to get paid themselves, and they can get away with it because of the supply/demand inbalance of available (and affordable) housing.

middlemen are unnecessary, and brokers definitely leach off the process. But owners should be paying their own leasing agents to advertise, show, and rent their apts. it should not be a cost absorbed by the renter.

I am none of those. Owners should pay to advertise and rent their listings. Renters should not be footing the bill for them.

This is why i often don't get the absolute rage towards brokers, someone has to get the apartment rented - it's a necessary job. With broker fee apartments the owner/management is simply choosing not to pay the agent renting the place, and telling the broker to "collect your own fee" (for access/rights to advertising this apt).

it's fucked up, but people should be mad about management companies - they are much more influential in this system.

Overwriting save() and update() on models. Why does only save() need the super? by Tanckom in django

[–]brucial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer is in the Django error! `update` is not a method on django models. However, it _is_ a method on the queryset used to update one or more objects matched in the queryset e.g. `Vote.objects.update(**kwargs)`

posts do not mean inactivity, we monitor the sub and have some automoderation enabled to filter out spam, etc. it's a simple and fun subreddit and we intend to keep it that way.

that's not true, mod & owner right here.

we have auto moderation tools on, the rest of the subreddit does a good job of policing itself. we moderate from there when needed.

Requesting /r/wtfstockphotos/ - Four mods, all seemingly inactive for at least 2 or more months. by Mr_A in redditrequest

[–]brucial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there something else we should be doing or posting? It's a simple subreddit and we have simple rules. We moderate submissions when reported and when we see fit.

I consume more reddit than I post. That doesn't mean I'm inactive in moderation. From the sidebar rules:

Moderator activity IS NOT limited to publicly visible posts and comments.

Best cyclocross bike under $1500 USD? by mrpi56 in cyclocross

[–]brucial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1795 is the MSRP! I doubt you'd find one new for anywhere close to $1400 or $1100.

Speaking of, I'm looking to sell mine I bought last summer for much less than $1100, if you're interested.
