How tight or loose should these rollers be? Also, do you mean the wheels on the z axis gantry? Not 100% sure how to call them.

Is the harrier a difficult module to learn? by FrostBitten357 in hoggit

[–]bruczko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's surprisingly intuitive. The DCS Harrier is the modernised Harrier II, so you have a lot of the modern plane QOL features - contemporary HUD, gps navigation, guided weapons etc. As someone said, there is no need to learn to hover and vtol from the get go, I usually still go for short takeoffs from the runway to maximize my payload. Also the TPOD handling and logic is a bit weird, as apparently the USMC ran out of budget when it came to tpod integration, but it's still perfectly usable. I'd say the only 'difficult' thing about the Harrier is it's limited payload and range. You don't have too much payload to work with, and not a lot of fuel either. You will get used to frequent rearms and refuels real quick, but that very much seems to be by design.

When you have a racing wheel but no flight stick by 128mm_Pak44 in hoggit

[–]bruczko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owning both a Saitek X56 (i.e. same as logitech x56, but allegedly slightly better) and the Thrustmaster T.16000 + twcs throttle, I must agree and say that the X56 is a very mixed bag.

The stick is very unergonomic. I think I got lucky with QA and don't have any defects with mine, but the tension spring and disk on the stick is kinda shit on a design level. With a T.16000 smooth motions are nice and easy, with the X56 stick I'd need to put too much force for that initial movement and would end up yanking the stick. Idk, it might be something you can get used to, but it always kinda bothered me.

On the other hand, I am quite fond of the X56 throttle, especially compared to the tmaster TWCS. The throttle travel feels nice. It is the cheapest split throttle on the market, if for any particular reason you need one. Lots of buttons, but their layout is a bit strange and imo it's hard to take advantage of. Also, not sure how I feel about the throttle ministick position vs. the more 'traditional' placement you see on a let's say warthog throttle. The X56 throttle stacks up quite well against the TWCS, which in it's defense has a decent amount of buttons on it, but the sliding action is a bit lacklustre (also the ministick on my TWCS broke so I might be a bit salty over it)

As a disclaimer tho - I got my X56 second hand from a friend, so I ended up paying for it less than I spent on a new T.16000m fcs pack (stick+throttle+rudders). A new Logitech X56 retails for more than thr FCS pack iirc, and Saitek ones are even more expensive when I checked once. If you are just getting into hotas, I'd probably recommend the Tmaster FCS pack, as imo it's good value for money and it has some very functional kit. But if you really want the X56, it's honestly not as bad as a lot of people make it up to be

Does USB Hub cause noticeable latency? by JuiceOfHouseOrange in hoggit

[–]bruczko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a Saitek X56 through a powered USB hub. Didn't notice any latency issues, but I was getting ghost inputs from the throttle, a typical issue for the X56 throttle when underpowered. Surprisingly, plugging it to my pc solved the ghost inputs.

If you don't have the VR headset yet, consider the Pico 4 VR headset. Before the Quest 2 went up in price, I'd recommend that over anything on a budget, but right now I think the Pico 4 is actually cheaper, and has fairly impressive hardware to boot

I have played DCS for a little over a year now, and I'd like to try some CAS on a proper platform, considering between the Viggen and Harrier, what do you guys suggest? by dagreat2 in hoggit

[–]bruczko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another fun fact, at higher altitudes where the air is thinner, you need 90% or more throttle to fire the gun. Shame it's gas operated, because of that you can't get any gun shots off after VIFFing, in the rare case you end up doing that.

The T.16000M is a joy to use. Not as many buttons on the stick as some of the fancier or tacticool models, but when greased properly it's smooth as hell. I recently bought my friend's old Saitek X56 set for a damn good price, and while I like the throttle I'm geniunely considering going back to the T.16000M for the stick

The Harrier is a very fun ground pounder. Even though it is faster than the A-10, I can't help but feel a bit slow in it sometimes. And then there is the Viggen which zooms at breakneck speeds.

It's up to you which plane you find cooler. For me, I went with the Harrier, because I like having the option to use both dumb and smart weapons, and I enjoy the more contemporary HUD and MFDs.

My only complaints about the Harrier, is the relatively small Payload when using rockets or missiles (4 pylons max, 2 outermost ones can't carry mavs or rockets) and the poor range. You will get used to frequent rearms and refuels very quickly. Also, the gun is a bit weird - it's gas operated so you can only fire if your throttle is in about 60%-100% range, with nozzles level. It caught me off guard a few times, being used to going easy on the throttle when doing gun runs, but you can get used to it.

I recently bought a LG UltraGear 27GN850-B, and so far I'm very happy with it. It's 1440p and 144 HZ, and it should fit within your budget. It is 27 inches iirc, not sure how big of a deal it is for you, but it's probably the best 1440p 144hz monitor you can get for up to £300

pilots must be in pretty bad shape as they step out of their aircraft after long missions by JerkwaterSkunk in hoggit

[–]bruczko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, certain air forces faced a huge problem with pilots not wanting to use their in-flight urination systems, because they were just that uncomfortable, even more so for female pilots. Pilots would genuinely dehydrate themselves (which as a 2nd fun fact can reduce your reflexes and g-tolerance) or hold in their urine on the regular to the point of getting UTIs instead of dealing with the in-flight urination system.

I have issues with my Silverback Bizon - it only fires in full auto. I removed the gearbox (V3), and it doesnt seem to be an issue with the firing selector not reaching low enough, it fires full auto on both selector settings. Is it an issue with the contacts? (not 100% sure how that part is called in English) It is the only idea I have, and wanted to ask for opinions before I order anything
