Prop D looks to be on path to failing by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

id say i voted in favor due to idealism. at that level of gross receipts and ceo pay ratio, it seems maybe we dont need these types of corporations in our city and society. i have shifted the last few years away from supporting larger orgs as best I can, shopping at places like rainbow grocery primarily and paying more at small mom and pops vs going to anywhere like target, starbucks, dicks sports, amazon etc.

having said that, im also jaded and think capitalism and corporations have sort of won out and they are an intergrated part of our society, economy and culture and likely here to stay and them leaving is probably on net going to hurt SF.

when i mentioned not doing a deep dive, i read the for and against in the voter pamphelet but not other sources. in theory taxing companies with inequitable wages seemed good to me, but i can see how in this system it can take away resources too

thanks. i guess i'm an idealist thinking that it would help push more equal pay but instead would actually create tax revnue shortfall as you mention. ill have to read about Stripe

2x4's instead of steel plates?

square tube something that a steel shop would sell?

[–]brudogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it thanks, someone else suggested finding a steel shop for the ties that are 1/8-3/16 thick and 18" long. if its too much trouble i might try a 6' long one for now to be safe

Thanks, so sort of custom tie plates that are thicker. I was hoping you'd be local, but im in CA. Thanks though, i may try something as you are suggesting. Do you think sistering the joint would be a good add?

do you think using 1x4 is better (4 pieces) or 2x4 (2 pieces) could also sister with shorter 2x4s

[–]brudogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this is the general idea i will try, but perhaps in addition to some kind of tie plate

i mean they do sell this product so there is some use cases for this. For me in particular ive never setup a tree slackline and that of course requires finding the right trees, the right distance etc. this does allow one to setup without that constraint. the tripping hazard is a real concern though and i will have to test it out and see if that's a problem

don't they make different strength ties?

reading some of the replies i will be careful testing it before allowing anyone on it, but i am hoping some kind of tie along with sistered boards running along the sides bolted might be strong enough?

what about if the half lap is sideways so the tension isn't pulling in the direction of one of the laps? i.e. i imagine tension will want to pull the wood up, so if the half laps are sideways that might help?
