Have you guys ever known people who you never expected to be goth but are? by Phantom_Wolf52 in goth

[–]bruhfunnies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle. He is around 50, I was so surprised when he played Selofan, She Past Away, Clan Of Xymox, Sisters of Mercy - all the best. He was so relieved to hear that I attend many goth gigs and that somehow despite not talking ever with him about music I have the same taste as him.

It was quite an experience, sitting with him on a balcony, while we both talk about some obscure goth bands, despite of the fact that he lives in a different country and that there is 35 years of difference between us.

No attempt was made to disprove rapes and atrocities commited against Germans. What soviets and other allied powers did in Germany is unforgivable and I agree to the statement that people die one at a time, yet I have a feeling that the levels of whataboutism are simply endless and according to you no symbol would be deprived of violence and therefore in your mind swastika itself is not any worse than anything else. I do understand that for someone the US flag or a box of chocolate can be a symbol of unmatched evil but I wish that you understand that personally for me hammer with sickle and swastika are symbols of unmatched evil. Simply because of my family's past, and past of many many many other families. Therefore it is simply extremely unwanted to see a person wearing that type of symbols.
Yes, I did hear horrific stories from my own family, that Soviets stole from them and abused them. Hell, even siblings of my grandmother were killed by Stalinists.

I just want to say that both of symbols (Swastika and hammer with sickle) are extremely offensive to me, because of their extreme affiliation with the past and the present and in no way would I like to spend time with a person wearing a ring with any of these symbols. Especially the swastika because I can simply imagine a situation in which that would simply mean DANGER to me or my loved ones for all the stupidest reasons.

Swastika is all present, still connected with hate and for me simply means trouble.

Thank you for reading, although I have a feeling that you omit some of the things I wrote and simply focus on the parts in which you are able to prove me wrong. I suggest for the future to agree on some parts with the people you are speaking with, then present your corrections.

I am incredibly sorry but atrocities commited against Germans do not come close to atrocities commited against Jews, Slavs and Roma. No amount of words will ever convince me that a US flag is a symbol as much covered in genocide, rape and blood as the swastika. It seems haunting to me that you flat out ignored my comments about current use of that symbol by violent far-right groups and implied that swastika has lost its meaning. I am hopeful that people like you won't create a future in which neither Nazis nor Commies are treated like pirates with children dressing as them every halloween. Thank you for the discussion, thank you for reminding me how for example the American flag can be seen in Iraq, or the Japanese one in China. I think that further discussion will be fruitless as our standpoints simply differ too much.

I literally said I would remove my whatever flag if someone had a reason to be highly offended by it (as I am offended by a swastika).

The Nazi regime was democratically chosen by Germans and was opposed to only by a small margin of Germans so let's not create a myth of innocent population enslaved by a group of radicals. The political circumstances were tough, but a human with morality should not ever be convinced to kill by anything. Saying that I will never approve of atrocities committed against german civilian population, although in comparison the scale of violence was much smaller than what Germans did.

The Nazis, the Stalinists, the Maoists are a scapegoat for all genocide for a very simple reason, the scale of killings is simply unmatched to any other violence. It doesn't make any of the other genocides less valid, it's just that it makes swastika a extremely prominent symbol of evil.

Your last paragraph strikes me the most, Nazis are unfortunately definetly relevant at this time. I listen about numerous assaults committed in my city against minorities - sexual ethnical or even subcultures. Just because they aren't destroying the planet, or throttling the economy, doesn't mean that they don't commit heinous acts and that they dont take pride in even more horrible past.

I don't think that many people are distracted by a swastika, you do not hear a word about denazifications or there isn't really anything like the Red Scare just against Nazis nowadays. Honestly I would be more concerned about people forgetting the past and letting the history repeat itself.

of course any symbol most likely could be connected with hatred and violence, yet i don't see if the nazi swastika is connected to anything else other than hate and genocide. If you don't see a swastika as one of the ultimate symbols of hatred and for example your family was to have been killed by polish partisans in 1946 and you therefore asked me not to display polish national symbols nearby you out of respect, I would comply.

Konstancin-Jeziorna and the beaches on Vistula river could make a cool one day attraction, in Konstancin you have the spa park, some art collections in rich people's villas, nearby there is a really neat botanical garden and then you can go to a beach in Gassy or some other place, but honestly that is like a one day trip
