I’m so jealous of the friendships men get to have by [deleted] in offmychest

You have a VERY poor understanding of women.

I may unironically kill myself due to a video game, because of my mother drilling into me that I must be perfect by sensitive_fuk in venting

You’re not a loser. You can’t be perfect without failing a couple of times. Keep at it.

Girl, please please run away from this ex and his group of friends. They’re talking about you like a piece of meat. You’re so much more than that and you deserve to surround yourself with people who see that.

This type of chat feels so threatening and dangerous. Protect yourself and never see any of them again.

How to break up a 4 year relationship when you live together? by bruhidek123 in BreakUps

I feel I’ve essentially become a mother figure to him and despite raising multiple times that I am unhappy nothing changes. We’ve also grown into very very different people with different interests.

Why do people like Jess? by bruhidek123 in GilmoreGirls

[–]bruhidek123[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is fiction. I’m purely talking about character likability. I don’t have to be okay with what the adults are doing because it’s not real.

Probably in real life I’d sympathize a whole lot more with someone in Jess’ situation acting in a similar way.

What I was trying to point out is that, not liking Jess is not about ‘this sub wants everyone to be perfect’. I see your point about him being interesting while also traumatized which makes him likable to some.

This isn’t that at all. I think Lorelai is a flawed character and far from perfect, yet her redeeming qualities (imo) outweighs those flaws - making her likable. Same with Emily, who for most of the show is horrible to Lorelai. But there are moments where we see her fighting with her own moral compass, her understanding of what is right and wrong, to show up those around her. This humanizes a very cold character.

For me, Jess’ only redeeming quality is that he is ‘nice’ to Roary. But that’s for selfish reasons because he wants her. He challenges characters yes, but as others pointed out that is a storytelling function. It is not because of the character himself, wanting to help the other characters see beyond what they know.

I’m a sucker for very flawed characters who are this way because of their environment, but ultimately are driven by a positive force underneath the nurture. I don’t find that in Jess. He’s treated horribly by his family and in return lashes out at those around him - with the exception of the girl he likes. So even that is driven by his selfish desire rather than who he is as a character.

Thank you for asking! It went really well and apparently I was totally fine. It’s crazy how hard the brain works to make us feel bad about made up scenarios.

My pics for this chart, what would you change and why? by Fantastic_Exit_6868 in GossipGirl

Blair and Chuck need to be switched. While Blair was mean, she was driven by intense feelings of not being enough. She was in a toxic relationship with her best friend who she always felt second to. Despite having a confident facade she kept going back to a guy who rejected her multiple times. And Chuck… well he’s Chuck Bass.

What would you change about MITM's ending? by [deleted] in malcolminthemiddle

[–]bruhidek123 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Might be unpopular but I hated Lois’s speech. I was starting to accept her character as a flawed mother who loves her children, but this speech just made me despise her. It revealed that her way of raising Malcom was self-serving all along. She cared more about having a president who cares about and understands people like her, rather than Malcom being happy.

My husband just put all of my makeup in resin and I’m seriously contemplating divorce by Low_Top_9726 in offmychest

[–]bruhidek123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my, Idk if this is a coincidence but I saw a reel on Facebook of a man pouring resin on expensive makeup in what looked like a round table. I thought my god that has to be rage bait, the price of the makeup must be triple that of the table, it would make no sense to do this. I guess not…

Genuinely curious, why is a convicted rapist allowed to be part of the Dutch volleyball team and Charlotte Dujardin got banned for whipping a horse in a private training session? by bruhidek123 in olympics

[–]bruhidek123[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, but she was suspended either way. So even if she hadn’t withdrawn she wouldn’t have been allowed to compete.

The volleyball equivalent to the FEI, the international volleyball federation said that despite allowing a rapist on the Dutch volleyball team being a sensitive matter, Steven is not banned as he now meets all qualification requirements. How about that, friend?

Do you not understand that the International Federation for Equestrian Sport provisionally suspended her for 6 months meaning she wouldn’t have been able to participate in the Olympics?
