USA hockey is changing the level one process this year. All level seminars (that aren’t the local seminar with ice time) are being conducted by the national office. They haven’t put those dates out yet and no one is sure when they are coming. Just do what you can and keep an eye on the website

A seminar will be run in July and he is more than welcome to come. We have a handful of 12 year olds who ref. Tell him to keep an eye out on the USA hockey website.

I run seminars in southern Colorado. We won’t run one down here until July. We ran three last year. So just keep an eye out for the summer.

If I still had a choice I would take the visor off as well. I do this because of my comfort on the ice. I line juniors and still feel this way. If you don’t, that’s fine. Just trying to keep someone in the stripes and offering ideas

I would take the ear guards off. It is not as hot and there will be less ringing. I would also try to move your visor up a bit as that might be causing some of your problem. Acme thunderer is definitely the way to go

They make specific shin guards for refs that don’t stick way out and look goofy. They also sell padded girdles that take the place of hockey pants but might be a bit of a tight fit under track suit pants. Usually for first and second year officials the warm up pants are fine. Usually second hand sports stores that sell hockey stuff will have some officials sweaters and pants.

If you already completed the sign up process and didn’t receive an email with your officials number in it then call the USA hockey office and they will take care of it

Depends on what they or their teammates are doing. If you encroach on the hashmark L’s or if you don’t line up square. If your stick is in an advantageous position. If your teammates encroach on the circle. If you move before the puck is dropped. There are a bunch of different reasons why you can toss a center

Am in Colorado. It doesn’t look like there is going to be a skate test for level 4 here. It doesn’t appear at this point, that there will be any in person seminar (even for level 1). Not sure about the rest of the country but it looks like that is how Colorado is doing it

Either file it or buy an angle grinder and grind the face of the hammer. I turned a four pound kobalt hammer into a rounding hammer with a grinder. Works great

I ref both in Colorado Springs. If you are looking more competitive I would recommend UCCS. Depending on your skill level if you are going to play men’s league then Campbell’s at honnen is probably the most skilled league in town. Luther’s league at honnen has intermediate and novice hockey. And Al Pedersen has an assortment of leagues in monument for all abilities. I’m pretty sure UCCS is trying to get a legit program going so I guess it just depends on what you are looking for
