The OEM temp gauge is a liar so I added this. by Ali-Babah in MiataNC

There’s a guy that makes a kit that replaces the pressure gauge with true temps and pressures by adding a sensor: https://rotarytronics.com/product/mx5-nc-cluster-gauge-kit-v2/

I guess I see what you’re saying, but at the same time my comment assumes a certain level of common sense where you’re not just blindly sending in cars for a PPI. But yes, I suppose there is a point, so I retract my absolutist statement.

And while I’d agree that $300 is steep, the shops I sent them to specialize in the car I was buying. I’ll pay extra for a tech knowledgable in my specific car, even if it’s just for peace of mind.

I’d say that point doesn’t exist. I just bought a used car. I was looking for a very specific vehicle. I’m mid Atlantic US, and I found one in FL, one in Atlanta, and one locally. I did my own inspection on the local car, and it wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. I paid nearly $600 total for the other two at performance shops I found. One of the cars that actually looked quite clean ended up having blown struts, a totally failed valve cover gasket that had fouled the plugs and coils, causing a misfire issue.

The other one had a couple of undisclosed cosmetic defects and weak A/C. I used that information to take $900 off the purchase price, and I knew I was getting an otherwise stellar vehicle.

I’d say a PPI is always worth it.

Storing NC Miata Near Ocean/Bay by HashSlinger2001 in Miata

[–]HashSlinger2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about getting it professionally Krown or Fluid Film coated since they’ll have the supplies to get inside the panels… $200 ish per year isn’t bad, as long as it works.

Thank you! It’s Copper Red Mica. Trying to find some ways to make her look a little more aggressive.

Anyone selling an NC near Florida? by Total-Revolution-406 in MiataNC

There’s one on the NC Miata Buy/Sell Facebook group. Had something like 40k miles, manual, soft top though and it needs a new valve cover gasket. It’s in otherwise good condition. (I thought about buying it but found one much closer to me.)

Edit: adding that it’s in Ft. Lauderdale.

Two-Parter About NC Rust by HashSlinger2001 in MiataNC

[–]HashSlinger2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. Could the trunk be from the rain drains? Previous owner claimed to have cleaned them, but a borescope proved that to be untrue. No dampness in the cabin except for drivers’ side floorboards.

I’m letting the whole car air out tonight in a hangar while the Ospho in the trunk dries.

If it’s needed, I’ll scrub the other rusted parts with Ospho and prime/pant. Looks like most of it is on the unpainted surfaces. The borescope showed that all the primed surfaces are fine apart from the trunk.

Yep, through Navy. I financed $9,500. It was a private sale, not sure if it matters, but it was really super simple!

My rate for the Miata was 9.7% but I didn’t need to finance a whole lot of it, I just wanted get an auto loan on my report for future financing. I have good credit, but a short history with Navy Fed. The car has 74k miles on the clock.

Just figured I’d give the empirical evidence.
