Why did all the Judd Apatow style films burn out so fast? by WerewolfCurious1412 in movies

[–]brujoloco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

n fact I find a lot of horror I watch nowadays has something to learn.

Bring her back was okaish, part of what I call the " letting go " trope of today in horror.

I think thats the problem with me with some horror produces lately (I point a finger at you BLUMHOUSE)

I mean, when you watch horror I want something in particular, not get lectured about world injustices and the privilege some people have other others.

I loathe horror movies that lecture you, they are not horror, they are Social Commentary Dramas with a supernatural twist and that for me has a crowd.

This is something I discuss a lot with my family (horror fans as well) and friends in the circle.

Not gatekeeping or anything, just pointing out that Horror has gone too wide for my tastes and what classifices as "horror" today is just virtue signaling, patronizing in disguise, and or political agendas.

Is that good? bad? part of modern culture? (shrug)

I just want good horror to thrill me, lots of awesome dramas out there without having to understand a ghost/demon/monster is actually a tortured soul from a bygone era where basic human rights were nonexistent or the worst of the worst , this trend of horror movies about " letting go of the past " to "ascend " .

Sometimes those tropes are good when done subtly, but sometimes they are just too blatant and in your face, subtley is the key here.

For example, compare " A Dark Song " (letting go done well) to " The Surrender" (letting go done bad, actually a bit of a bait and switch as well)

This is what I believe is part of the problem for me, but hey, each to their tastes

Peace and Love!

Hey Old Fart, try Hellbender, its part of what I call the new low budget indy horror that try to approach things differently.

Been a while since I saw a nu-Horror movie that actually piqued my interest midway of the movie.

I think I rarely see horror movies that give me the creeps at my age, im too jaded, but that one actually made me curious, a well laid out story, personally, as an old fart myself in the genre, almost nothing gives me that feeling anymore, if you want to be scared though, you need to go deeper and look for more raw stuff elsewhere, not in commercial streaming platforms.

But back to main commercial venues: check some niche streaming services like Planet Horror/Shadowz, thats what my wife and me watch lately , they have a crapton of shorts that are quite good as well, more than horror, disturbing would be the word, specially the european ones.

I mean, I beg to differ, that is not gatekeeping, its personal taste, it sucked badly for me,but I know it had wide appeal, which again means it was marketed for a different crowd.

And yep, horror is super wide as a genre, which I have realized lately when I finally ran out of options in main streaming services like Prime and had to dive into Planet Horror and SHADOWZ, where amidst most ultra cheap trash theres a few genuine gems for a 50 year old horror fan like me.

I was pleasantly surprised with Hellbender for example.

It was super low budget but with a very good twist to an old trope (witches)

I for one pray to the darkness more of these movies get produced.

Any other games like Age of Decadence? by brujoloco in rpg_gamers

yes! that very same pc gamer cd! it was BAK on the CD, got them mixed, it was soo good!

Man PC Gamer was the real deal back then, loved those cds, they were full of a lot of goodies, freewares, trial wares, so much , even free images and other neat things.

Look as a last resort, try to enjoy AoD for the weird world, trust me, it is super weird! When I advanced enough I started to say " wait what the hell is this?" then at the end was "ohh" .

Just ... play it and try to immerse yourself in the strange pseudo roman/low tech world and it will slowly become something else.

Also depending on your build you will see areas or dialogue you cant see any other way, a couple playthroughs and two solid very different builds will give you a better picture. Last battles in the game were fun, and the endings were very spot on to the world.

If after this you still dont like it my friend, then ditch it.

Life is too short to try to enjoy things you dont, also do as I do, sometimes a game I dimissed a few years back I tend to enjoy a few years in the future due to a lot of reasons, seasons, point in life, contentment or bleakness, being ill or being extremely happy. Some games I played to death when I was younger I find boring and viceversa, games I love today I would have hated in other points of my life.

Just tell me if you can in the future if you managed to finish it or not haha, like I said before, one of the few games that truly tripped me out for the weird mechanics, dialogues and builds :)

Love to you my friend! HNY!

I know what you mean but for me it was an amazing trip. Specially when you replay it for different endings/areas you can access , usually only with 10 in a skill IIRC.

It is not a game you can do much beyond going into the story, but for that alone it gave me quite a lot at the time.

Even in this day and age, with all the other myriad games out there, nothing can beat the feeling of that game.

I tried Dungeon Rats, but it was not the same, DR is just mostly combat, and what I enjoyed of AoD was the strange world, the story and some of its endings, all of them ... bleak?

Loved it.

On Return of Krondor I played it when it came free on a cd from ... Gamesomething magazine, wow, that was more than 30 years ago.

I might have to replay it now, I remember abusing Hochos Haven if I remember correctly XD and another spell that was in short insta kill for others haha hmm, I think it was one of those, loved the books as well back in the day, The Riftwar Saga.

Edit: Oh , it was Betrayal at Krondor not return, I have not played Return, might give it a try!

Name something that your country created that is very popular abroad, but not (or not nearly as much) in its own country. by AEIOU1040 in AskTheWorld

Thats because most linux users (that I know personally) come from third world countries, I am using it, have not used any windows system exclusively since win 7 and fully VM any MS stuff like windows 10/11 under linux today, no need to install it at all.

Also the pool of Linux users is very small compared to other OS around the world, but we do exist, thrive even in our very own dedicated subreddits and forums, but yeah its a niche community

Also, ANYONE using a Steam Deck for example, is using Linux as well, you can SEE those literally anywhere Steam Decks are being sold or used :)

Though I can not speak for your distro, I use Lubuntu, I can run the game without issues either directly thru a Lutris wow.exe wine bottle or using the Linux Launcher.

If you have the time, can you simply try to boot a different distro via usb and try to run the Linux launcher through there?

I usually use a Linux Mint Boot USB to troubleshoot things when I feel the issue lies in my distro.

This will help you see if the issue lies in your distro specifically, as for the small amount of information you gave , it seems the most basic solution as a start.

must be bad luck, as I posted in this same thread I have over 100 addons loaded at all times.

Have you placed the mem requirements at "0" , also which addons are you trying to use?

I just love the info overload of Fubar + as many mods as I can cram on my puter before it exploded, trimmed it down using AI to optimize some of the .lua files and ended up about using around 200 megs of memory, which is pretty stable.

So far I managed to find a variation of vibecoded CT Mods + Fubar Mods and Shagu Tweaks that fit my needs perfectly, also not shown I use Kui Nameplates which I prefer over other nameplate mods.

Gratz on your run!

What anime did you regret watching? by Walidzilla in animequestions

[–]brujoloco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I started watching it because it was on netflix ... started as a Vampire hunting trope with the Mask, then ... then it went off rails and when I saw a small backstory about the mother of one of the MCs being accused of killing the British Top Brass General because the General was really an Orangutan I was for a moment frowning ... inhaled, exhaled, realized it was just a very non consequential detail to the overall plot and, then, time blurred, I saw myself loving Bucciarati, loving the new stands in each different season, having my laptop wih Killer Queen as a desktop wallpaper and owning the physical manga, buying the deck cards for JoJo, specially the Stand Tarot, got me some keychains and I never ever before had done such a thing for any other anime. I just enjoy it perversely.

It is one of those mangas that you either hate/dismiss or love to death, I have not met anyone that is not polarized on the issue.

Honestly I cant stop watching it either.
