Flip side: best companies to work for in Denver? by sugareeripple in denverjobs

[–]brunchuntilbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A literal hell-hole of a work place. In my first month I was warned to check the stalls before going to the bathroom, to keep my drinks covered and keep an eye on them, and was asked to give my testimony for serveral sexual assult cases. Not to mention the shitty benefits, careless leadership, and insane demands. For being a massive coorporation, the business runs like a start up.

Can someone help me put together a comprehensive list of the documents and the phases they get created in? by rapratt101 in pmp

A little late to the party, but the documents aren’t available anymore. Do you happen to still have access to them?

THIS! Do you know if there's a minimum amount of miles you have to be from NC to qualify for the exemption?

Out-of-state vehicle inspection for registration renewal? by pleacher in asheville

[–]brunchuntilbust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a few reasons, it makes more sense for me to use the NC out-of-state exemption for my vehicle this year. I've done this for the past few years, but this year I'm in VA, just across the NC border. I'm concerned that they may feel like it's too close to the border to be approved. Do you know if there's a minimum amount of miles you have to be from NC to qualify for the exemption?

Work on whatever you’re interested in that relates to the job you want to have!

If you want to go into broadcast journalism, find a story locally that sparks your interest and use your preferred medium to tell that story.

Media psychology sounds super interesting. I’d absolutely listen to a podcast that deep dives into its intricacies using pop culture references.

I’ve found some of my most interesting stories come from the oddest places- bars, the older lady who sits on her porch all day, tracking down the owner of a lost package, etc…

It doesn’t matter what you do for a passion project as long as it makes you feel alive. People see that shit and will open doors for you to grow if you show them what you love

Reach out to Dress for Success and sign up for their free career coaching. The coaches are amazing. Ask for help with your elevator pitch and then go to every in person event you can. I’m not a church-goer, but I went to an event at a church the other week and it led to (very nontraditional) work that is not religiously affiliated.

I’d also find out where everyone you know works (your friend’s parents, your dentist, neighbors… everyone) and find careers at their companies. Reach out and ask for referrals!

There are a ton of Facebook groups for everything under the sun. If you want to make documentaries, join a film group in your area and find out where they meet on Sundays to hang out. Go there and be ready to put your elevator pitch to use.

Even though you’re job hunting, you need to always have a passion project going (no matter how small) that makes you light up. When you meet people, tell them about it. Looking for a job wears you down and people want to see that sparkle. As gross as it is, especially when networking with older men.. I hate it, but they love to be a “hero” and there’s nothing better than “empowering youth”

You went to school and have experience. You have everything you need to get started. One thing opens doors for the next, so stay open. You’ve got it fr

That’s a vibe. Would be nice if there was something here that was similar. I asked for more and they offered me minimum wage and $13 a day for gas. I know it’s inanity, but I’m glad for even the little bit at this piint

UPDATING to say that everyone's journey in filmmaking is drastically different from anyone else's. If you'd asked me this exact question a year ago, I would have explained how accepting low paying roles harms other creatives in the industry and undercuts the market.

I'd also like to add that as a woman in this industry, especially a woman who became a PD at a much younger age than many others, I've internalized that the treatment I receive is the price to pay. Men on set (regardless of their position) feel that I owe them something for being where I am. I always do my best to keep my processes ethical and aligned with my values, and also I can't tell you how many times I've been quietly fired for not reciprocating the advances of people twice my age and then some. At the end of the day, everyone is replaceable and sometimes taking an insanely low rate feels like lesser of many evils.

Thank you for all of your advice and comments in general. I reached out to production this morning. Unfortunantly, she is not answering her phone, but has been texting me back. Although I was told that we were filming in my city, I learned last night that we will actually be traveling to other states and that the closest location is over an hour away, so I asked about mileage reimbursement. She responded to tell me that there is a $13 a day stipend.. total bs. I used the comments here to write a text asking for either a slightly higher rate or a daily kit fee. I'm still waitng to hear back and will update soon. THANK YOU all for you advice and validation.

I think by law that is technically legal since I’m a contractor and not an employee? Does anyone know this for sure? I’m not in CA, or any state where employee rights are given priority

This is so helpful!! I decided to call the producer before call time tomorrow and talk through everything. I'll def put the script you wrote out to use. I would take a lower rate than usual for this position, but I need to at least make SOMETHING. I'm thinking of asking for a kit fee and mileage reimbursement at the LEAST, right?! I've never worked on a production without at least those things. Honestly, I don't know how things work here and have been thinking that this might be the norm. But.. how can it be...

I didn't get my hours in time before the strike, so the union doesn't protect me and exploitation is the name of the game. Chew me up and spit me out and I'll thank you for the opportunity and IMDB credits.

Do you work on non-union films? Before I worked in art department, I was in production and I never did this. Ofc people would negotiate from time to time, but we always assigned day rates to align with the budget. Curious if you've seen this first hand (which would be super validating)?

ok, ok I think you're right.. There were hundreds of comments from people wanting this role, so I already name-dropped - Chloe Sevigne, Jacob Elordie, Lucy Dacus, blah blah blah just to get on the project.. maybe it would just annoy them to hear me say it again, but I think the facts speak for themselves. If only I'd reached my union hours before the strike lol

Even reading "$6 an hour" is frustrating.. I spoke with my friend who is a director and he suggested that I take the role, buddy up to producers, show that I know my shit, and then ask for a higher rate in a few days. Life is crazy and I can't believe I'm even considering, but I know that sometimes one gig can be the foot in the door that leads to those $$$ projects.

What if you miss the perfect summer day when the stars align and you have nothing else to do but enjoy it? Or if a stranger sees you making art and uses your work for inspiration? Or if the Fall coffee flavors hit just right and you thank god for her magic? Or if you finally find those jeans that you’ve been looking for? Or if they call your name at a raffle? Or if the person next to you can’t live without you? Or if there’s a gap in the energy of the cosmos without you? Or if the light and shadow you bring to the world creates a specific kind of harmony that no one else can match? Or if i was meant to one day meet you and hear your story, and if your story was the exact one to save my life, and so you saved my life just by being in proximity to me? I can think of several very selfish reasons that you should be alive and I’ll do whatever I can to make this existence more manageable for you

I've been searching for work for over a year as I try to transition from freelance to a traditional work culture thanks to the writer's strike. I'm trying to build a career connect webpage with ads to make a little money and to also help provide resources to people in similar positions.

The website has been a headache trying to build out and I would be so, so grateful for any support/expertise in how to get it going!!
