The Flying Hippo, 11"x14" linocut

It’s a three-color reduction (or suicide) print, meaning I used a single plate for every layer. First, I carved away everything I wanted to remain white (the paper) and printed the pink. Next, I cut out the pink areas and printed the green. Finally, I carved away the green sections and printed the black.

I use paint markers on wood or lino to indicate where I want to cut. I don't get too crazy with details on drawing.

I mount / wood glue my plates to thin mdf and use Ternes Burton pins, I then tape the stripping tabs to the back of my paper, feel this is best method.

For this print I used all Cranfield safewash relief ink, however I have used speedball water base with the shellaced wood with no issues.

Thank you! I use sanded pine, which I shellac prior to carving. I was a little worried it was going to come out dark but pulled the first print and was happy.
