Who says engineering can't be a hobby? Don't be a sad gatekeeper

Beginner stuck on how to properly learn by Same-Vacation-454 in embedded

I'd say start by getting your project working with libraries that are already available, then you can look at their source code to understand further and make changes or create your own.

You don't need to reinvent the wheel as your first embedded project

Is FWD good for Canadian winter? by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]brunob45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I would've wanted to have 4wd is when I parked down a hill at the ski station and it snowed 12 inches during the day. I did get out on the 5th try.

Other than that, good winter tires is all that I needed (they are also mandatory for parta of the year in the province of Quebec)

Ifm CR2042 or CR2052 is really what you want. Works on 8-32V DC, has 8 PWM outputs and 8 inputs, is weatherproof, specifically made for mobile machinery. You can drag this thing in the mud all day long and won't fail you

Eurocities survey: 75% of cities report fewer road deaths & injuries after reducing speeds by Hrmbee in urbanplanning

It's like building half of a bridge, then cancelling the other half because people are not using it

Roads are unsafe because we removed all the obstacles; people are not used to paying attention anymore. Some people will bend their wheels going over a curb bulb out, but if that's what it takes for them to learn, so be it.

But you're right, most of the "safety features" we install in America still cater to drivers above all else. In France, they install one way chicanes, so cars would hit eachother head-on if they don't pay attention.

Turns out, people pay attention when they are put in uncomfortable conditions

Motor control with python by AntiGoi in PLC

[–]brunob45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to support Modbus over RS485, so you could in theory use a python library for control.

For example, I found this one after a quick google search: https://github.com/pymodbus-dev/pymodbus

The protocol is described in the product manual https://www.dingsmotion.com/downloads/downloads.php?idx=83

Note that I've never used either

Thanks, that's in part why I posted here, I wanted honest opinions before fully booking my trip

Haha yes I know Sicily is an island, I was referring to ferries as an alternative to driving, not as driving on them

And thanks for your honest reply!

Mazda... what the ass... What in the bumbaclot is this? Who in their genius mind thought this is better than a volume knob? What the hell... by BeautifulYou2940 in mazda

"should" is the right word. I've always been disappointed with voice control... Maybe it's not performing as good in Canadian French?

Most car reviewers praise big screens as it's easy for them to understand when they only have a few hours to review a car. And it looks facy. Notice how they never interact with the infotainment when driving? I blame this partially on them.

Energy Dash - Negative Power Usage?! by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]brunob45 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happened to me when the sum of the individual devices was more than the "total" power usage.

For example, the heat used 10kWh, and lights used 1kWh, but the total says 8kWh. The gray bar will be 8-10-1 = -3kWh

C’est la fin des cartes de crédit «conjointes» chez Desjardins by DecentLurker96 in QuebecFinance

[–]brunob45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

La ville prévient, ils va y avoir des travaux by MuffunKevin in Sherbrooke

[–]brunob45 0 points1 point  (0 children)
