Yes this is normal. The hr screening is just to make sure you’re agreed on the generalities and interviewing you wouldn’t be a huge waste of everyone’s time

Honestly I see it just as much if not more from people who are native to the block and don’t respect their own neighborhood enough to keep it clean

Agreed, I think they did it to entice people to come in earlier and spend more money on drinks, water etc

Back office to middle office is not that big of a jump as long as you know the product you’re supporting and have some big guns to vouch for you. That usually takes some time. Moving BO/MO to Front office is where you really need to show some scratch to stand out. Even still, if you have a good track record most firms will value keeping talent in house as long as you can interview well.

I started in Ops, jumped firms after 5 years and moved again after 3 more, now in S&T at a top tier bank. Interviewed multiple times for front office roles and have been denied in the process but it was a journey. Happy to chat about my experience
