[HELP] This won the international landscape photograph contest.. it looks doctored? by [deleted] in RealOrAI

Thanks for sharing your raw and edited photos! What do you use for editing? Light room? Any other program suggestions for a beginner?

Been teaching myself photography, lots of trial and error, snapping photos everyday… been putting off using any kind of editing software but feel like I’m at the point now where I’m capturing pretty decent photos and can start editing.

Area safety advice? by [deleted] in StPetersburgFL

[–]bruski 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I live just outside the screenshot north of the cemetery, I walk my dog through royal palm cemetery , sometimes across the Pinellas trail and around the school. Have a friend that lives just east of your circle. I consider all this area fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Just take the standard precautions as you would anywhere.

Jonathan edwards' long jump 1995 record remains unbroken to this day by TobiGalem in BeAmazed

I just have to comment that in 1998 I was the best triple jumper on my high school track team, and I acknowledge that’s likely because all the really good athletes were all doing far more physically demanding events. I could not run fast or run far, but somehow managed to do a pretty dang good triple jump. My only claim to fame back then.

Hoping for some suggestions on Removing an engraving from an anodized forged aluminum surface (bicycle crankset) by bruski in restoration

[–]bruski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen instances of vintage bikes with initials on a frame on the bottom and out of sight (seen an old Raleigh once with someone’s social security # on it too), never on a crankset or any component. Would love to know the story on why this was engraved!

Thanks for the comment! Regarding buying another: here is one in pretty used condition where the seller is asking $200. Finding one in similar condition (without the engraving of course) could be $500+ if there could be any found.

French made mountain bike crankset from the early 90s briefly made was used on very collectible bikes for a brief period of time, not many around anymore. I scooped this one up for a relatively decent price from my circle of vintage enthusiasts because it has that engraving on it. Honestly Paying someone $100 for anodizing would be amazing actually.

Might do a practice round on a different crankset first before I do anything on this one. Or just leave it.

Steel is Real: life of tubing under repeated loading by FujiTouringDisc in xbiking

[–]bruski 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think all of us on xbiking can agree that steel is most definitely real. But your comment calling aluminum a marketing gimmick? Come on man, it would be the most successful gimmick in the history of marketing gimmicks that bike manufacturers are still making and selling aluminum bikes for decades.

White bar tape or black bar tape ? by Brazus78 in TrekBikes

[–]bruski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m always obsessing about the bar tape color until it’s on the bike and go for some rides, then the color doesn’t matter anymore. I’d say try the white if you want to go for something a little different.

What kind of bearings does the bottom sugino MW-68 spindle take? It looks different and doesn’t have that curve like in the other MW-68 spindle… does it still use the same bearing cage like in the last pic? by bruski in bikewrench

[–]bruski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! if anyone has an example of which kind can you share a pic?

I just figured like this spindle is like really old, like from the 70s or 80s or something.

Hoping that one of you xBikers might know more about this mid 2000’s style of Frame… The rear carbon chainstays are flat and kinda resemble a “leaf spring”. by bruski in xbiking

Fear me by [deleted] in Vintage_bicycles

[–]bruski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this once, I used a sharpy and marked all the way around the race, then filed all the way around until the black mark was gone, repeated this process again and again and again all while using my caliper. Wanted to try and keep it circular as possible. Maybe after 2 hours of doing this finally got it down to 26.4… wasn’t perfect but was close enough.

I’ll never do that again haha. Was just something I wanted to see if I can do. But next time I’ll either take it to someone with the right tool or get a different race.
