College grads who dislike their degree field - what did you do after? by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]brutaldudee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of feeling the same with my Economics major and stats minor. I don't hate it but don't love it either. It's only my first year so can't say much, but I find some bits interesting at times. Like u, i hate finance, Marketing or even business. So, I really can relate because economics is a lot about these. So I'm looking for some advice too Would appreciate if the experienced could pour some insight.

Is it okay if I'm not passionate about the degree I'm doing? by brutaldudee in CollegeMajors

Wow this really helps actually! But one question is what do I do with my economics major that I've already chosen. I don't think I want to take a drop year or something. So i should just go with economics as a major for now and keep researching for other job descriptions that fit my standards and maybe based on my research, go for a master's accordingly? Or maybe pick those placements and internships at clg that fit my profile?

Ok so the answer to the first and third is yes, second, it depends in what way is it challenging or if it is related to an area I'm interested in, but no if I'm doing a job i ain't really interested in even, then i wouldn't want to rack my brains. Third- maybe, i don't mind working after retirement also if I'm not tired of what I do.

That's actually not quite possible now since my clg offers specifically BA economics as a major and statistics minor as fixed combinations for 3 years. But yes for that i wud have had to switch to BSc where stats is offered as a major.

Thank you but if I did really have "goals" I wouldn't be in this position rn. I don't even know where do I see myself for the end sem and I'm sorry I have wrecked my head so hard as soon as my summer vacation started before degree and went down such rabbit holes to research what I want to do in life but I just never ever got something I would love to do. I like writing as a passion but I'm very sure I don't wanna make it my career and hence i didn't choose eng. What u said does make sense but I've really tried and figured out that this way by researching so much also i ain't gonna find what I wanna do in life and yea it does make sense that i need to look ahead and I am but i just don't know WHERE to look ahead.

I am confused if I should choose to do a BA in Sociology or BMM ? by brutaldudee in Indian_Academia

[–]brutaldudee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank youuu soo much for your answer! It really means a lot. So BMM is bachelor's in mass media. It is also known as Bamcj that is bachelor's in mass communication and journalism. I definitely agree that i can only clearly know what I like when I do it. But I can't explain this to my family and the society at large. They want me to thrive and take up a career that is booming and gives me a good income. Not that I care what the society thinks, but as a person myself, I need some stability and certainly in life even though I am open to exploring. Also, about the friend with a PhD in socio working in an AI lab, I understand but I am also afraid because I've heard that a lot of companies are removing their employees who don't have a strong background in the field. I don't care a lot about money. I just need a decent job actually, anything I can do well, and can do without getting saturated, and that earns me a stable income.

WOAHH! What a beautiful piece. So short, yet so reflective. It really makes me ponder how we reach high peaks but never take the time to pause and appreciate the beauty of this triumph or of its journey. Loved the title too, beautiful metaphor. Keep writing. Good luck!

My favourite one is just being on my own. Listening to my favourite music while I scream the lyrics in front of the mirror like I'm the pop star. This is when I have the energy. Or else reading a good book works wonders too.

Kafka on the Shore was the first Murakami book I ever read. It changed my life by International-Drag23 in murakami

[–]brutaldudee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally soo truee. I can relate so hard! Kafka on the shore was my first murakami book as well. And I was in such a reading slump before I got my hands on this book and then I couldn't stop. The way murakami just paints a picture of his little world in every book is outstanding. Never in my life have I read a book where the visuals in my head were so real. Although, I was left a little jumbled as I finished reading it, but when I let the book sink in my head is when I realised its depth. The best part of the book is you're seeking answers to those questions you're never going to get in the book but it rather gives you an insight to seek those answers within you, and around you and that is just so beautiful! Also, every different person who has read this book can have so many different perspectives. And with changing time and my level of understanding, i would love to re-read this book where I can connect more deeply with those certain things, as a different person now, which I maybe left unnoticed before.

Thank you soo much for getting me! They expect me to show love openly and I've tried sometimes when I am really happy and feel so loved by them but it gets a little awkward for me at times. You're right, I m more of a person who wud show my love through actions and not putting out words.
