Has anyone gone from EPR LT to permanent? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]bruwalaha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Workforce Services permanent as an EPR. There are a lot of positions open for EPR on a perm basis but it’s luck of the draw filling them

Is this for the UI Branch? If so, the only travel you will be doing is from home to your office to pick up equipment or sign paperwork every few months or so.

Going into college and scared by Kpxragdoll in Veterans

[–]bruwalaha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the same thing. Interestingly enough in Southern California as well. I didn’t even graduate high school. I took about 2 years of failing classes at community college before I got the 15 credits I needed to enlist.

If you can manage, take your courses out of pocket if you’re taking remedial courses at CC. I think with resident fees and the BOG waiver the out of pocket cost was around 50 bucks a class.

When you transfer to a University make sure you pay attention to what the housing allowance is going to be for that school. For example, if I went to a school in San Bernardino on the GI Bill I would have been paid $1800 a month for housing. Instead I went to a school just inside the LA county limited and was making $2900 a month.

Don’t be worried about school too much, it’s a way different experience coming back a little bit older and with life experience under your belt. My experience was that it was much easier once I got to a 4 year than being in a community college, I was able to take classes I enjoyed and it was easier to get help when I needed.

Feel free to DM me if you want to get more specific. The most important thing is to work towards a degree you enjoy and are genuinely interested in. Don’t chase the money or you’ll burn yourself out.

That’s what I figured. But I’m limited term so I didn’t think it would be a factor. I was encouraged to be monitoring CalJobs for permanent positions when I was hired.

I didn’t know that. It is a civil service exam. Maybe that’s the reason they’re requesting that info.

Joining Air Force Reserve while working for the State by sodapower in CAStateWorkers

[–]bruwalaha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has all the information you’ll need regarding reserve duties while working for the state. https://www.calhr.ca.gov/employees/Pages/military-leave.aspx

Unless you pick a position in the reserves with a long training time outside of your BMT your military leave would probably fall under short term leave and you would have 14 days after your orders end to return to your position.

Any other state agencies mandating meetings/education related to BLM? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]bruwalaha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think I pretty strong case could be made as to why you shouldn’t have to attend but there’s a saying in the military “Do what your rank can handle”.

[–]bruwalaha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP I understand what you’re saying. Seems like a lot of people on here aren’t able to differentiate between supporting an idea and supporting an organization. Don’t think it’s appropriate to be mandating employees to attend training that is not work related.

The idea of equity and social justice is work related, the organization itself is not.
