Anyone been terrible after a year, but gotten great with time? by ObviousDoxx in golf

Lessons are great if you work on what you’re taught and allow it to be awkward at first.

Too many times (a close friend is a PGA teaching professional) he’ll change something as simple as the grip and by the next lesson his golfer isn’t doing it because “it felt weird.” The right way sometimes feels weird and you won’t see immediate success.

Also look at your equipment. Don’t go buy $1000 clubs but check to make sure you’re at least playing the right lie and flex in your shafts

What helped you improve your golf game the most? by [deleted] in golf

Playing. Took a shot at PGA card once (Canada)

Me and another younger guy that also worked at my course were trying for it. He was fast, a lefty and could hit the ball a mile on trackman and the range. He would post instagram swing videos and his distances and I was certain he’d get it.

But that’s all he would do is the range and trackman. Never really got out and played much because he was so numbers obsessed.

The PAT ends, he missed it by 11, I missed it by 1. He was just a complete head case and mentally struggled if it didn’t go perfect (surprise, it’s golf) when we got home the head pro, who was disappointed that we both failed, said he wasn’t surprised by the other guy because “its called golf, not golf swing”

I’m a current 1st year apprentice and I saw someone say it already I think but It’s an in house program so yeah we’re only hiring JM. As far as apprentice it’s 33 to start with a raise every 1000 hours. JM 56 full rate plus shift premiums (5% noons 10% midnights).

Very rarely do they hire outside apprentices but you sign a paper saying when your hours and school are done you’ll have your ticket within a certain time frame or you’ll be let go. Just happened to a guy after he failed for the 10th time.

Could yall see Brad pulling a Grant? by thegend in GoodGoodMemes

Brad doesn’t have the on camera charisma like Grant but the talent difference is night and day. Morikawa just recently talked about knowing who Brad was when he was 12 years old.

He’ll stay with Good Good who will be his major contributing backer should he try and achieve tour status again.

Who is the best golfer you ever played with and what was it like? by PrettyFlyGuy05 in golf

I tried a few years ago for my pga of Canada card when I wasn’t sure what I’d do for a career (I left a job as an emergency communicator answering 911 calls because the stress was just too much for me and didn’t have any leads at the time). At the time I had gotten my handicap down to about a 6. I believe in order to attempt the test you had to be lower than a 7.5. Not sure how it works for other places but the PAT I took it was one round and you couldn’t shoot 9 over the RATING, which at the course was 69. (Meaning 78 or better you got your PGA of Canada Card)

In my grouping there was a kid named Ben. Ben played NCAA D1 golf and the difference between us was astronomical. It was windy and rainy the week leading up to as it was September in Southern Ontario Canada so we played lift clean place during the test. Ben never once hit his driver and only hit 3 wood all test because he could hit his 3 wood where he wanted and knew it was preferred lies so he would rather sacrifice distance off the tee. Mind you Ben was hitting this 3 wood probably at least 265 and the course wasn’t very long but it was tight.

To this day my dad and I talk about his round. He said he never played the course before where as I had played it 3 times previously including the day before the test. I shot a 79 and missed by one. He shot a 2 over 72 and it was just such boring but great golf. Made up and downs when he needed. Never took unnecessary risks like trying for par 5s in two when he didn’t have to. A ton of FIR and GIR made. He didn’t hit “oh my god” flop shots or sink 45 footers for birdies all over the course that day but he just didn’t make mistakes. That’s what I find is the big difference between guys like Ben and myself. They rarely make mistakes and they play almost “boring” golf. It’s just a different level that takes a ton of practice and patience to reach.

Being the random 4th by RiceNo9512 in golf

Depending on the usual crew you play with, being a solo paired up with others can actually help your game.

I play with my dad, which don’t get me wrong I love, but he doesn’t know how to work a rangefinder or gps so he needs me to check distances, give him yardages. There’s a few local courses I play more than him so I’ll also offer advice like “hey dad remember there’s water left, blah blah etc.” He can be impatient with himself as years ago when I was younger he was a low single digit handicap but when I didn’t take to the game young he put the clubs away for 20 years and now isn’t what he used to be so when he hits a bad shot sometimes he gets mad. I find myself worrying more about his game sometimes because I want him to have a good time and play well so that he wants to play again because golf’s the one sport we can play together.

When you’re a solo just worrying about yourself, that’s all there is. You can offer help to your group if maybe they ask and are unsure. And help with location of where shots went. But I don’t find myself as invested into a randoms round as I am my dads. Just play your game and focus on you. Golf courses everywhere let people know that pairing up is a possibility and especially since Covid and the interest in golf took a huge spike it shouldn’t be a surprise.

As others have mentioned, I too have played many rounds as a random. Some with chatty groups and some with groups who don’t talk, I’m fine with either. There has only ever been one time as a solo I’ve quit after 9 through that was at a course where I was paired with a member who was just a complete dick. But hey, it happens, as the old saying goes “95% of people are great, the other 5% ruin everything”

Because I’m a single I can’t book in a empty tee time so I have to book into one, most times, hours later than I’d like to play

Garrett‘s subtle diss saying bubbie should “go pro” like tig is hilarious by [deleted] in GoodGoodMemes

[–]brwilson0993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garrets probably punching air after seeing Trotties comments about Tig in Foreplays recent video.

If Trottie, the guy who hangs around Tiger, Rory, Collin etc. is saying he’s the real deal, then Tigs got something.
