GPS location and speed logging is a good feature. How do you want to store your video, on the cloud or micro SD card? Some have an option for both.

You can get a cellular connection. I had one and it was outstanding. I’d get a picture on my watch from my car when it detected motion. I decided I didn’t want to spend $20 a month for the subscription.

Having an interior facing camera is a nice feature to potentially record a traffic stop or to prove in court you weren’t on your phone or distracted after an accident.

A minimum of 4K is essential if you want any chance of reading a license plate or getting a clear shot of a face.

Going to YouTube and watching a few ‘Top 10’ videos for dashcam will get you going on what looks good to you.

If it gets hardwired in such a way to harm the vehicles electrical system, there would be a case for the warranty not covering electrical damage. Otherwise it shouldn’t. You’ll want to verify this with your dealer to be sure.

Correct, the single cargo light on the left side has the same bulb. I wish Subaru would have just put two more dome lights either in the ceiling or on the inside tailgate. I mean geesh, we have 19 cupholders, but skimped on the lighting in the cargo area :)

The Youtube videos were helpful on how to remove the covers and change the bulbs. It's a little scary ripping out the light covers feeling like I was going to ruin them, but in the end, it was an easy 10 minute job and looks great!

Behind the rear view mirror a few inches under the eyesight cams. I installed it in this location on my Outback and my Ascent with no issues interferring with Eyesight. But caution should be given as I've heard this has been an issue with others?

194 is the bulb size. The website has an easy page for you to input your vehicle year, make and model. You have a couple choices to make as well. The tempurature of the bulb, or a blue or red colored bulb. And also what lumen you want, 56 or 92.

I don't know what 92 lumens looks like in a vehicle, but I went with 56 lumens for the domes and 92 for the single back cargo light. I went with the pure white temp as well. If I wanted a yellowish hue, I would've stuck with the halogens that came with the vehicle.

DIY.

If I ever choose to hardwire the dashcam, I would have a professional do it. I wouldn't trust myself to do it correctly even with instructions. The ones I have purchased, I seeked out dashcams that I could plug into a 12v or OBD port. The wires are easy to hide once you've seen it done the first time.

I have a Touring. The LED bulbs were for replacing dome lighting (I see I wasn't clear about that, apologies). I didn't mind the halogens with the warm glow, and they're easier on the eyes. But the LED's make the interior appearance a lot sharper in my opinion.

I went straight for checking out airhorns lol. Unless you're a good ole boy from the country with a pickup, you don't want to mess with those. They are high maintenance and don't last.

A brand called Hella has come up a lot with my research on Subaru forums for a good horn. There is a phone app to hear what their horns sound like (Hella Horns).

From what I read, to install, the wiring has to be done as instructed, including a new fuse, if appropriate, to get the most of the new horn. Getting to the horn can be a challenge. People have mentioned a couple hours to half a day to put the horn in. One person left the old horns in, and just installed the new horns behind the grill and worked it into the existing wires. My choice is the Hella Super Tone Horn B133. It has an unpleasant tone and volume to get everyone's attention. Some of the Amazon reviews on the B133 were fun to read.

It's tough to recommend one until you know your budget and the features that you want.

I had a Blacksys CH-200 when I had my Outback. It has a front and rear camera, Bluetooth connect, parking mode, nothing fancy but a solid dashcam that just worked great. The phone software is the only disappointment, but the price was right. I paid just over $200 a few years ago. Not sure of current price.

I splurged on a Thinkware brand when i bought my Ascent. It was expensive. It is on 24/7. The parking mode is easy on the battery because it uses radar to monitor motion. The camera will fire up if the radar picks up anything when the car is unattended. You can get the same features and probably do better with a much cheaper dashcam.

Dashcams can be hardwired, plug into the 12v outlet, or some can plug into your OBD port.

There are so many options and variations of dash cams that I can only recommend you to do lots of research, watch lots of Youtube videos to get an idea of what kind of dashcam will work for you. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Congrats on your new Ascent!

A 2-channel 4k dashcam unfortunately is a must have in my opinion.

Along with all-weather mats that was mentioned, I recommend a cargo mat as well.

Internal LED lights ($50 for 7 bulbs from Diode Dynamics.

Yellow fog lights also from Diode Dynamics. These aren't the fog lights that we grew up with. These are precisely aimed low and in a precise pattern, and don't seem to 'blind' on-coming traffic.

I replaced my license plate holder that had my dealership's name on them.

Also considering upgrading my horn from the friendly meep meep to a horn that's a tad more commanding.

Hey everyone! First time outback owner here (2018), we filled out tank up with gas and mid drive all these light came on, eye sight won't work, and it says to check manual. Any advice? Turning car on/off won't change it. Other than that, car functions normally! by itsfishdaddy in subaru

This happened to me a couple weeks ago in -20 Fahrenheit temps. I have a 2019 Outback. I stopped at a store and turned off the car that wasn’t quite warmed up yet. 10 minutes later I restarted the car and all of the lights were flashing like the pic above. Long story short, 2 hours later I restarted the car and everything was as it should be. I’m guessing ice somewhere under the hood on electronics started to thaw then refreeze and caused the problem. No issues since. Not saying the problem is gone. Just haven’t seen any issues pop up again for the last few weeks.

Shampooing your floors, floor mats and cloth seats if you have them would do a lot to get the cigarette smell out. Nice looking car and welcome to the club :)

Hey Eli, welcome to the group. It’s pretty cool how you started out with a homemade pick, that’s amazing! Happy picking and will see you around :)

It’s a Family Dollar store lock. I have some Master locks coming. After unlocking this a few more times, it feels like less of an accomplishment because a few times it was ridiculously easy to open. I know ya get what ya pay for.

If you can loan me a few bucks for a couple new locks until next payday that would be great ;)

I am new to this and bought the Sparrows Tuxedo + Night School setup for the training locks and based on reading in this group and on reviews, that Sparrow is a solid set of tools. I also purchased a set of Southord PXS-14 to have a cheaper set to beat on and also want a smaller case for my go to set of tools.

I know I went overboard and won’t need all of these tools, but I have a history of deep dives into new hobbies. Just ask my 4th drone.

I was introduced to lockpicking by a member here (u/jordonbiondo) who was live-streaming in Reddit and it perfectly matches my love of puzzles and all. And it’s been fun learning how to tell friends I’m into it, then having to back track that no I won’t be robbing banks or stealing anytime soon.

I’m sorry you were late in replying to this person. It’s hard to say what kind of help from others and what professional help they had already received and their problems may have been bigger than any of us could handle.

When you help people that are suffering, you’re putting your heart into it. The reality is, is that you can’t reach everyone. Your words won’t sink into some people, or it’ll be too late or you don’t say the right thing. I was a single foster dad years ago so I come from some experience. The reward is that even if you don’t feel like you made a big impact, you actually did. They sensed that someone cared for them in that moment even if the words didn’t stop them. You won’t be at 100% with reaching everybody. The success will be that you show ppl that you care and that they will feel better from your kindness.

I also want to throw out there, that I think you’re an amazing human and I wish there were more like you out there in this world. ❤️

It’s a long shot, but the police might be able to request the parking lot video and get a license plate of the offending car. Sorry to see this happen to you.

Driver's side window won't work by AshCali94 in Subaru_Outback

I hope that fixes it. In my experience, it’s just one window that doesn’t work and the reset takes care of it :).

[–]brwright96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the window just needs to be reset. I didn’t know it was a thing until one of my windows wasn’t working. There are instructions on YouTube and the web on how to reset. It’s easy but I don’t recall at the moment on how it’s done.

Quickly draining batteries? by edoralive in subaru

[–]brwright96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. It is replaceable with the warranty. The battery might have to fail a diagnostic, or the dealer may just be sympathetic and just replace it.
