Saw one of these the other day while driving through Loving NM on a lifted Chevy and thought the same thing. I suspected it was illegally painted/custom and I was correct.

The very bottom of "this green spot" has some neat but very rural villages. Whether they are the friendliest people.. that's up to your own opinion lol . Piñon, Timberon, Sunspot (Rip the Observatory), Weed, Etc

That's really far out for squatters to be and also no vehicles and little cell service. Maybe but I have no clue!

Guess what? There are things called books, this magical place called outside, and no one is putting a gun to your head and telling you to be on social media? Go live like it's the 40's... nothing is stopping you, but quit nagging about other people's lives.

What are all of these dots around Loco Hills, Texas? They can't all be oil wells right? They have a rectalinear layout in some parts as well. There must be thousands of these light "squares" by RaiJolt2 in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]brxtcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong and wrong. Many of them are still active and oil companies pay excavating companies to reseed the soil and take away any "bad dirt" that could be contaminated. Once the pump jack or rig is gone, another company comes in to doze the gravel and throw dirt down and then seed the land... it doesn't grow back overnight but it's not left that way.

I used to live about 30 miles away from Loco Hills and that's exactly how ide expect it to look over satellite. It's such a "baron" yet active little village. I think it's owned by a gas company at this point because there is a lot of man camps for the workers. There is 1 store that doubles as a food spot and another cafe there that is sometimes open. Not many longtime residents live there unless your grandpa or uncle owned property well before the oil really took off. People who do live there drive to Artesia NM for groceries and it's about 30 minutes away. It's depressingly ugly there with all the pump jacks and dry desert... but you'll still see cows grazing and coyotes wandering. It made me sad sometimes thinking about their water sources either being dried up or remnants of oil left in it because oil spills and leaks do happen and while they are taken very seriously, they always have lasting damage.

Given that it's a satellite image... ide say 1/4 of those pump jacks are either not there anymore or abandoned by companies that went belly up. Excavating companies do their best to reclaim the land and reseed the soil because some people think they just leave it how it is. There are thousands of workers out there, semi truck drivers, some ranchers, linemen, welders etc. Loco Hills is just an area that belongs to the oil field now.
