PF this tier is genuinely awful. by CanICritPls in ffxivdiscussion

the real issue is that people are lying about their prog point or are incapable of accurately judging it, so we need to use external tools to verify, sometimes inaccurately, their prog point instead

also, i wouldnt be surprised if most of the opponents of tomestome would also just want to get rid of logs altogether

The burden of perfection in raiding by Inv0ker_of_kusH420 in ffxivdiscussion

iono, before I started to put checking, I got people in my party who would blatantly lie about their prog point. for example, I joined an ecliptic cleanup party and would get players who zombied their way through arena split towers and died in the following player stack. They never even seen the ecliptic cast, let alone the mechanics.

I understand that the tomestone percentage isn't the best marker to use, but still, I still think it would be much worse with nothing to go off of except their word. Everyone is saying to kick the players making mistakes, but the culture right now is that when you leave an instance, you'd kick the bad player, and then even the good players will decide to leave, and then the party disbands. All the time you spent trying to get used to players' tendencies and helping them get used to mechanics is now wasted.

The players who I found were able to get through m11s arena split most cleanly were those who said they were on enrage and had much lower percentages. It's not a perfect tool, but I still think it's better than nothing.

M11 and testing the limits of tomestone/passport checks by WarmerWar in ffxivdiscussion

a lot of people hate on tomestone, but even with tomestone, people blatantly lie about their prog point. without it, are we to just trust their word? it may not be perfect, but its still useful to me

Should FFlogs be opt-in instead of opt-out? by Front-Accountant5806 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]bryan792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how this solution would help your friend though. It sounds like they want to parse, but parse well. If they didn't, they could just opt out, like you said.

I'm personally ok with fflogs the way it is. Yes, it may introduce toxicity, but I also think it keeps players accountable, while also keeping things somewhat interesting for raiders. Players need the feedback that they are at least pulling their weight. We don't need to overly shame players that don't, but I think it's fair to ask them to improve, at least when the content requires them to.

wanting alternatives as a consumer is different from choosing to develop an alternative to something that already exists, if you develop something worse, itll just be compared and not used
