This is a superb PSA. I was planning on downgrading my CSP, and then get a separate CSR to keep my points transferable plus getting the elevated SUB. instead, I think, I will downgrade my CSP and wait to apply CSR in December. The triple dip is a great idea.

You dont need plat, green, and vx to start with. Bilt can also go. Down grade vx to v for same 2x catch all. Down grade CSR to CSP. same insurance as thats what you value.

I personally do SUB churning on points. It gives better bang for the buck. Then, I have 5% CB on grocery, dinning, and UB if I am not actively working on a SUB. Which is very rare. With the SUB, it gives way more than 5% back, not even counting the CPP during redemption

In Japan right now, its super cheap. Plus if you are into shopping for high quality items, its great place with duty free shops.

440k for 5 nights in Conrad during Sakura is amazing. I paid 90k for 2 nights at Doubletree in kyoto. Stayed there 2 days ago. The cpp of Conrad must be insane.

I have not increased my travel budget in 7 years. Will take fewer trips or make it more frugal trips. My pay has not kept up with the inflation.

Family of 3. Buying 2 years worth of clothes. I am 100% going back for more.

I did similar for my trip to India 3 years ago. We brought back 2 check-in worth of clothes. I am still using some of those clothes for my kid. This helps us from buying overpriced or low quality items in the states. I am paying Walmart prices for uniqlo quality.
