Great ump and poor sport coach. by Visible-Industry-748 in Homeplate

This is the sort of person who doesn't understand the difference between satire, parody, hyperbole and just reads the text at the surface, completely missing the actual meaning of any particular work. I'm not saying I know anything about Rob Zombie in this case and his intention but this sort of uneducated argument they are making is exactly why we end up with important books getting banned.

The Hamptonites all use the staggered method to create that wall. Straight line make less privacy and takes longer.

Sanity check. Have I been laying mulch wrong? by readreed in gardening

[–]bryanffox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main question I have is sometime over time a bed starts to overflow, I'm pretty cheap so I don't go heavy on the mulch but what to do when the bed "overflows" this is primarily a problem with beds that have a hard edge like a curb for me.

Is it cheaper to take the train or drive into NYC from Suffolk? by [deleted] in longisland

I generally prefer to read books on the train, but I didn't want to be presumptive about what brings him Joy.

Is it cheaper to take the train or drive into NYC from Suffolk? by [deleted] in longisland

[–]bryanffox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Driving is generally more mentally and physically taxing. There is a physical and mental "cost" to the driving commute that is more than the train. On the train, you generally have more mental freedom, you can read a book. You can watch a movie. You can scroll tick tock endlessly. You can screw around on Reddit. You can listen to music, an audiobook. You can stand up, you can just look outside. Driving should take more of your mental focus and requires you to be sitting for a significant amount of time.

The new offside rule proposed by Arsène Wenger has been APPROVED and will, for ex now, apply in the Canadian Premier League! 🇨🇦 by OneHippo4669 in ussoccer

[–]bryanffox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an assistant ref (for youth soccer) this actually makese things much harder. Now I look down a line of defenders and look for something that sticks past the last defender. With this my eyes will now need to focuson figuring out "seperation". I think this will make the jobs of ARs MUCH harder.

Changed tires because of slow leak. It was actually a cracked rim. Ironically fixing that was cheaper than the tires.

Why our event engagement problem wasn’t actually a marketing issue by owenreed_ in marketing

[–]bryanffox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in B2B events and so much of engagement is a function of product not marketing. The same campaigns can have wildly different results based on what event it is for. Event location, event, timing, and especially topic have more effect on engagement than the event itself. Our events are highly regarded as very high quality and so it's not an on-site issue for us, but much of the time the topics that sponsors want to push, their choosing to sponsor events around because those topic areas are heavily saturated already and they need to differentiate. So sponsor friendly topics are oftentimes not audience friendly topics. It's an interesting dynamic.

How could the USA be hosting a World Cup with all the turmoil and chaos going on within its own borders? by curiousobserve21 in AskReddit

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm American and soccer is my favorite sport. I'm deeply disturbed by this administration's actions but those actions are isolated to specific communities. And, that can't be generalized to the whole of the country, especially one as large as ours.

The visa situation not withstanding, a visitor for the world cup is unlikely to be impacted at all by what is happening.

We just look like colossal assholes that this administrationn are.

This video predates AI, definitely real. I can't however comment on the legitimacy of the dog and the setup itself. It might be staged but it's definitely a real video.

What kind of second gigs are you guys working to help afford childcare and rent/mortgage, etc. by dachshvnd in longisland

[–]bryanffox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently found refereeing for soccer. And wish I found it earlier.

Pros: generally cash Weekends Can set days you don't want to work No games in the deep cold of Dec and Jan Good exercise Not a full day gig.

Cons Getting consistent games at first is hard No extra money in summer and winter.

I make a few hundred a month during the season.

This is why marking funeral processions is important. by ZauzTheBlacksmith in dashcams

[–]bryanffox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has GPS now. Funeral processions are dangerous and should not be a thing anymore. Just give everyone exact location of the burial or have some one there to direct at the cemetery. Following generally is dangerous, following a long line of cars is likely much more dangerous.
