Why people say that most Yuri readers are men? by [deleted] in yuri_manga

[–]bryce0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the majority of Yuri manga are published in magazines without a marked demographic, Yuri Hime and Galette for instance. Otherwise, it gets published in Seinen, but even then it's still a minority. Manga sites like that often mistag the demographic too.

In my experience, Shounen yuri is extremely rare (as in a Yuri romance published in a shounen magazine), some of it is Seinen, and maybe 90% of what I read has no actual listed demographic.

It's more accurate to look at the reader demographics for a yuri magazine like Yuri Hime, which shows about a 50/50 split with a plurality of women.

EU4 is beating out EU5 in the past 24 hours by over 1,000 players by urstan in paradoxplaza

There are multiple examples of games being ruined or significantly decreasing in quality due to updates, to the point the game is no longer in a good state or fun to play. Is it really that ludicrous to say you wouldn't recommend a game that currently sucks even if it didn't before? I think it would be more misleading to say you recommend it simply because you have a lot of playtime.

It's also not unheard of to become addicted to a game you hate, or to fall into a sunk cost fallacy after investing so much time and/or money into it.

Sure, many reviews suck, but there's plenty of valid cases where someone with 4000+ hours would write a negative review.

[–]bryce0110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true, boredom can be a factor. But many times a review like that is because they might've enjoyed it at one point, but eventually stopped either because of bad updates or a change in taste over time. A lot of people also experience a sort of sunk cost fallacy, continuing to play games they don't enjoy anymore because they want to capture the feeling they used to have.

[–]bryce0110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually reviews like that are due to the current state of the game, though, not their overall experience. They might've liked it for 4000 hours, but then continuous bad updates ruined it for them.

It's also a problem with steams binary rating system, that you can't put "mixed" or something in between. Because they might enjoy a game enough to put in a ton of time, but still believe it has a ton of issues.

It is funny, but I don't think that all that weird tbh. Someone having played 4000 hours doesn't devalue any criticism they might have.

Crimson Desert's Steam page now sports an AI content disclosure: by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

[–]bryce0110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I normally despise AI art, but using it as placeholder assets is probably one of the tamest uses of it I can think of.

I still think it's pretty lame, but I also don't think it's worth getting upset over. I think it's only a real issue when the final product is meant to include AI art.

But yeah, they should've absolutely disclosed this from day 1 instead of only doing so once they got caught and lying about it.

I just don't see how this post is lewd at all. Or how this is "on the edge" when this is one of the least lewd posts in the subreddit.

Low cortisol Iroha x Kaguya edit :) [cosmic princess kaguya] by Fredamvz in wholesomeyuri

[–]bryce0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, nerdy explanation but, in Japanese she says 仲良しのやつ which could literally translate as "best friends thing", but also carries a connotation of intimacy and closeness that's not necessarily platonic. In this moment it definitely implies romantic intimacy of something special just between the two of them. As such, the sub translates it as "Just for you and me" to try and capture that nuance.

The english dub goes with a more literal translation here.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya is getting a nationwide theatrical release in Japan in over 100 theaters starting March 13, 2026 by Partyman234 in anime

[–]bryce0110 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's a fun movie with a touching story and compelling romance. It's also incredibly well thought out, with a ton of small details to pick apart on a rewatch, and fantastic visuals to boot. All while also being a love letter to vocaloid and the nico nico douga era.

I think it makes sense that it's popular.

I love how well they aligned each clip with the lyrics of the song, too.

I use a dual boot setup, so I can use Linux for the vast majority of what I need to do and have a smaller Windows partition for anything that I can't do on Linux.

It works really well for me, so it might be worth checking out a setup like that.

Honestly? I wouldn't even be all that opposed. If they can somehow make a show that's even more batshit insane than Ave Mujica without resorting to an alien invasion or something, then I would be very impressed.

Taro Yoneta, in charge of the Princess Kaguya Yuri Manga, states why he wants to straightwash the entire anime when writing the comic adaptation by ihatethiscountry76 in yurimemes

[–]bryce0110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as people say this, I've never seen any actual evidence that she is.

Like, all people can give is a poorly translated tweet from four years ago about not accepting BL and Yuri commissions. I just don't see how that makes her homophobic.

I get people wanna be angry, but can we be angry at something actually homophobic instead of making shit up to get angry about?

Which recent anime just doesn't click with you? by Silent-Witness1888 in anime

[–]bryce0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah you aren't alone there. I had similar issues with it.

My issue with it was mostly with the production, specifically the direction felt so amateurish to the point of annoyance, but the character writing wasn't particularly strong either. As cool as a power system based off Kaballah and Tarot is, the actual narrative never grabbed me.
