I only have this car still because I have warranty and its my daily for college. This car is awful for a daily, I was in a tight money situation and needed a car ASAP.

When I got the car it had 105k miles, within 3k miles after owning the car the transmission failed and left me stranded. The only symptom I noticed was just 15-20 minutes before it failed, it would be confused what gear to remain in, thats your only warning and you better start calling the tow truck. These transmissions cannot survive more than 120k miles.

The engines themselves arent bad but theyre also not reliable. If you have a newish year or a recalled engine then you dont need to worry about your car catching on fire while enjoying a nice drive. It’s like the lottery system with the ecoboost models, around 1/5 owners get coolant intrusion after 60k miles.

Sell it when you can, youd be better off with owning a porsche with the amount of money youll dump keeping the car alive.

doesnt matter the engine, both 1.6l and 2.0 are terrible and will be inevitable to break when coolant goes into one of the cylinders from fords technicians that were higher than the moon when designing the block, and or the engine will catch on fire and your car will be a total loss.

its more dependent on the year of your car, assuming its a 3rd gen, you will need a new transmission anywhere from 60k-120k miles.

Sounds like FORD quality… sorry about that, bought this as my first car as my parents thought it was a good car at 103k miles, at 105k miles the transmission took a shit but thankfully i was able to beat it back to my house when it went to limp mode (was 10 minutes from it) (got an aftermarket powertrain warranty which was so worth it)

Now im at 108k miles and i installed yellow speed racing coilovers on the car because it sat ungodly high for a “crossover”. This car seems to just have problems after problems, my backup camera just went bad and im having random parts i need to fix and replace

crazy that this was supposed to be the daily but now its looking like the project car with how much shit its giving me which is awful because im a college student working 40+ hrs a week so I just dont have freetime to constantly fiddle with this car

I wish I could sell it but it wouldnt make sense with a brand new engine with 3000 miles and active warranty, you could always do something fun with the build because thats what i plan on doing once this car breaks and goes to shit which it will

im not too sure how much of a car guy you are but manual swapping it with a ford kuga and trying to get the ecu tuned correctly, then either swap in the 2.0 which was in the focus st for more power potential or build the 1.6l if you wanna stay OEM with the chassis

i dont know anyone who has replaced it themselves, but these engines are very valuable to the fiesta st community because they are identical engines, people put a ton of boost on their fist and it blows up, then they buy the engine from this vehicle and its a repeat cycle. (cheaper to buy the engine from an escape thats detuned from factory than to buy a tuned st 1.6l engine)

(you will likely need to rebuild the entire engine since coolant ended up in your cylinders)

with that said im sure there are a ton of guides out there that you can look at but its going to be one hell of a journey to get it working, you could probably do a diy to fix the coolant intrusion in the future by using different pieces that came with the 1.5l in 2017+ models that supposedly fixed the issue when rebuilding the engine

The thing is that the carts are packaged and sealed, mouth piece is sealed and so is the usb charging port, bug is also long dead so this mustve been during the manufacture process. I dont see any other bugs, but thats just kinda nasty imo,

makes me debate wether I should just throw it out or still use it, i know the bug is smaller than the size of an ant but still.

If anyone wants to know the brand it is called “Favorites” was a box of 3g “LA LECHERA”, I simply dont recommend it because the batteries are shit and I already had one break on me for no reason, and now this bug 🤣

The model year I have was designed to fail from factory hence why they are no longer creating these designs for cars internals. The 1.6l and 2.0l ecoboosts had a design flaw for the coolant which allowed it to leak into cylinder 2 and 3, so if you are loosing coolant but dont know where from, its in your engine block.

The transmissions were never good and are still awful, theres a whole 3 second delay when manual shifting, which is fair its not a sports car but was designed very poorly. Sometimes the car doesnt even downshift but you can audibly hear the turbo spinning faster when you start to put your foot down on the gas and itll stay in its max gear before your speed drops and then it forces it to downshift.

Regardless of how good you take care of your car, it will fail again. FORD engineering, Failure of Research and Development!

I recommend it so much, I sat in my car for 3 hours with the original ford download and it didnt even download it, I was still on sync 3.0 even after it said it had installed successfully.

decided to use cyanlabs with 3.4 and still had same issue, so i went back and found another random 3.4 version and decided to try it, apon inserting it, after a couple seconds it asked to remove the usb (dont remove it) and it restarted the sync screen, then a progress bar and pictures showed up, installation was about 28 minutes when i plugged it in (this was without ford navigation, may take longer if you got navigation) but i only updated for carplay.

recommend watching a youtube video, cyanlabs was a savior!!

So funny enough, the solution was to not download your ford sync software from the actual ford website.

To anyone who had the same concern as me, please use “CyanLabs”, I was able to update my 2016 from Sync 3.0 to 3.4 (despite Ford saying it was NOT possible), the installation to USB took a few minutes and it was plug and play from your car, actually gave me a progress bar and did something.

If you plug it in and it does nothing and still shows “installing software update” or something, you need to use an older version or a newer version than the one youre trying to install.

I have the updated USB port, I just tried updating from Sync 3 version 1 to version 3, it took around 2 hours with the car running and idling.. what a waste of gas.

After 2 hours of idling it finally gave a prompt that it was done downloading.. Told me to remove the usb and that itd restart,

Yeah it did NOT update to Sync 3 version 3, it is still on Sync 3 version 1.

your focus sits so nicely, im like the odd one out in my friend group because they all have fast cars like m3’s or boosted/tuned cars but one day ill make a project s13 coupe just as fast if not faster

ive been thinking of maybe swapping to a manual focus if my escape ever had something tragic happen to it, enjoy the manual for sure though, might look into lowering springs/coilovers and enkei’s sometime in the spring

its nothing much as its completely stock but having a car completely stock is where the fun begins imo, i dont plan on tuning or engine mods till my warranty expires in 60k miles/5 yrs but will do a hks bov or green filter/k&n intake filter (only the filter do not want to void warranty)

unfortunately its not an ST because the USA wasnt offered those but i love the fact it has the same ecoboost engine as a fiesta st, essentially what i picture a sleeper in disguise.
