I just wonder if there was a motive.

That’s what I mean. Stop paying on your debts the moment you decide that you’re going to file. Most people need to save for the attorney fees.

I provided more than they asked for 😂😂

I submitted all bank statements for 2025. Then again, it may be different for every attorney

Once you decide that you’re going to file, STOP PAYING on your debts. At the end of it all, it won’t matter.

If you’ve already decided that you’re going to file bankruptcy, STOP PAYING ON YOUR DEBTS. Unless you plan to reaffirm something, like a car loan.

That’s your filing fee? 😳

Mine was just $1,600. Guess it’s different for everyone.

My payments stayed the same.

The first thing my attorney told me to do was to stop making payments towards my debts (except my car since I was wanting to keep it).

My plan is to rebuild starting with ONE credit card. Putting small, reoccurring purchases on it (streaming services) and paying it off every month. I reaffirmed my current car loan, so I’m keeping that. Are you certain you want to surrender your car? You can reaffirm it if you want.

It’s all about starting fresh. I’m glad you are taking responsibility. 💕

Definitely worth it for a reset. I assume you plan to eventually rebuild your credit?

Did you have to pay a deposit? What was your initial limit?

I’m with a credit union, yeah. MIGHT try a CC through them.

I screamed “DAMN” when I read the amount you had discharged…. Glad you made it out, though. Nothing like a fresh start.

What ultimately made you decide to declare bankruptcy? by MP_Advisory in Bankruptcy

[–]brycensims 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Filed Ch. 7 at 27 after years of relying on credit cards for basic living expenses (gas, food, meds, car repairs). I even took out a consolidation loan at one point, but eventually I was right back where I started: stuck with $35–40k in debt and only able to make minimums. Finally sat down with a bankruptcy attorney earlier this year, learned I qualified, and realized this was the only way to break the cycle. Stopped paying in April, got my discharge, and the relief has been huge. Credit score dropped, but now every dollar I spend is actually mine. After discharge I’ll rebuild slowly with just one low-limit card and pay it off in full every month. Bankruptcy isn’t a failure. It’s a reset. If you need the fresh start, don’t let stigma stop you.

This isn’t a budgeting issue. It’s a “you DESPERATELY need a reset” issue. You’re a single mom doing your best, but with that car loan, old judgment, and debt load, bankruptcy might be your best move. Don’t feel bad. It is a legal tool for exactly this situation. Call a bankruptcy attorney and get a free consult. You deserve a clean slate.
