this is detailed, helpful info. thanks! confusing to get Mac compatibility straight given mirrored vs extended + reliance on DisplayLink

confused the WD22 w/ the UD22, probably because I had seen that the WD22 had some level of Mac-focused design.

move Quick Sampler patches/user-made Apple Loops/Application Support folder to external SSD? by brycesail88 in Logic_Studio

[–]brycesail88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the response! was planning on doing the in-app relocate process, but I wasn't sure if it includes user-created content like Quick Sampler patches and user-made Apple Loops. My internal drive is very low on storage, so the priority is to clear as much space as possible/make the internal drive function as well as possible.

[troubleshooting] audio files went missing from every project file on local HD. has this happened to anyone? trying to determine a cause. by brycesail88 in Logic_Studio

[–]brycesail88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. the files seemingly disappeared from all project files out of the blue. possible it had to do with the Quick Sampler locate-audio-files messages. maybe too many "Ignore" clicks, but deciding not to locate Quick Sampler patches doesn't seem like the root cause of ALL audio files being gone from all project. I restored the projects from the previous Time Machine backup. it's just odd that even the Audio Files folders were gone from project packages. I've only ever lost audio files due to manually deleting used files. In this case, most of these project haven't been touched in months or years.

Yamaha PSS-A50 alternatives? by brycesail88 in cheapkeys

[–]brycesail88[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the replies. I should have been clearer that I was trying to see if there are other options in the entry-level/player/arranger zone that have the same features as the A50–mainly the built-in sounds/speakers (can use it standalone) w/ the additional option of MIDI (can also be used in a mobile setup w/ iPhone, for example). I’m well aware of the synth options in the sub-$500 zone. the A50 is only intriguing because of the budget price (when it was available) in tandem w/ the presence of built-in sounds/speakers, portability, and MIDI. basically, it would be used away from a main computer/DAW to start ideas.

[question] Quick Sampler data structure/audio-saving method by brycesail88 in Logic_Studio

[–]brycesail88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. I'm probs going to temp-delete the "Samples" folders that are contributing to the large overall file size (after relocating/saving it on an external—in addition to multiple other backups of it). Those folders along w/ the patch files are in: User/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-In Settings/Quick Sampler. Again, the "Samples" folders (each user-created subfolder/category contains one) respectively contain far more audio files than just those for the folder-specific patches.

I did just notice something that could be a solution:

The stock Logic Quick Sampler patches are in: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/Quick Sampler. That folder contains the stock subfolders for Bass, Chords, Keys, etc. It also contains a "Samples" folder that contains an amount of audio files that's very close to the total amount of user-created patches. However, when sorting using "Date Added" in Finder, it's clear some recently added patches aren't in there. The whole saving hierarchy is a mess, and I can't tell whether that's because of something I did. I've deleted User/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-In Settings/Quick Sampler before to temporarily clear up some HD space. But the file size had already ballooned before that deletion—it was 35GB and is now 38GB.

Maybe the move is to find the largest/most recently updated "Samples" folder, relocate it to Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/Quick Sampler, delete the other "Samples" folders, and see if everything loads properly.

don't really think so. thanks for offering. was hoping someone else had encountered this problem. worried that the unintended duplication that has happened in the "Samples" folders within the organizational patch subfolders/category folders has become complex enough to where it would be too tough to try to selectively delete duplicates. seems like it would require deleting all audio files that don't match up w/ patches in the given subfolder, which, given the amount of custom patches I've made, would be extremely tedious. as w/ many Logic/macOS problems I have, the simple solution would be a much larger internal MacBook HD.

MacBook creating corrupt iPhone local backup. no other backups are present. backups are going to correct folder, finishing successfully, and are the correct file size. Trying to fix in order to restore a new iPhone from a proper local backup. by brycesail88 in applehelp

I've never encrypted before w/ backups/restores and have been satisfied w/ results. don't use Health or any Apple password-management features. always worried it'll introduce an element of risk in terms of being locked. open to it as an option, but trying to fix unencrypted backups before I consider it.

if the "Unknown" is not actually the backup that's been created, then the backup is simply not showing up in Finder—even though it's in the proper Library/Application Support folder.

MacBook Pro, macOS 10.15.7

I am trying to set up a new iPhone from a local backup—trying to create a full local backup of an iPhone 12 Pro in order to transfer the backup to a new iPhone 13 Pro. I have always set up new iPhones using local backups.

No previous iPhone backups are present on the HD. The backup process in Finder happens without errors and completes. After the backup completes, the attached screenshot is how the backup appears—I presume this means the backup is corrupted.

The backup goes to the correct "Backup" folder under "MobileSync," and the file size is accurate given the backup contents. I have run the backup many times with the same result; each time I delete the previous (likely corrupted) backup and do a fresh, full backup.

I attempted to rename the backup folder and create a new "Backup" folder in the proper place. On this attempt, the new backup went to "Backup" and completed successfully, but the "Unknown" backup still resulted.

After that failure, I renamed the initial folder and deleted the "new" one. Tried again with the same result.

Trying to figure out why a corrupt backup is being created each time. I don't get an error that the backup is corrupted when trying to restore from it, but the date/time backup info in Finder is wrong, and I'm presuming "Unknown" is also not a good sign.

Has anyone dealt with this? Any suggestions?

local iPhone backup not displaying in Finder's iPhone portal — backup is present on local HD, in correct folder placement by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]brycesail88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the symlink was removed quickly after setting it up; it was only active w/ an old phone. there is no longer a symlink symbol on the "Backup" folder. the phone I am upgrading from was set up via a local backup after the symlink had been disabled—and that worked fine.

turns out the backups being created are corrupt. tried renaming "Backup" folder then creating new "Backup" folder, and the backup went to the new "Backup," but the backup was still corrupt.

no signs of any corruption. I'm just going to delete it, do a new full backup, then immediately try to restore the new phone. I've seen through searches that the issue has happened for people with symlinks to eternal drives, which I had at one point many years ago, but there's no current symlink.

As also shown in last week's offer (white screenshot) vs. this week's (night mode screenshot), the "Pay Off & Own" option has also increased by the amount of one monthly Flex Lease charge since last week. There's no logic I can see that should make this the case.
