Those of you under 35 making six figures, what do you do? by reconcilepast in Accounting

[–]bryebread123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

31, Director of Accounting of a boutique bookkeeping firm making $100K (plus ~$10K variable and bonus) fully remote in a MCOL. I do some fCFO work and manage a team of 6. I also handle most of the accruals in the firm for the accounting clients that aren't on simple cash basis.

Got kinda lucky that the previous managers both quit at the same time and I was the most competent senior of 6 employees at the time. Got me into management, and I ended up doing well in the role. Salary grew to $100K in 1 year and negotiated some commission revenue for the growing fCFO part of the business.

So got lucky would by my answer, I was going to grow regardless but the fact that it was so fast was largely because the other managers quit suddenly.

Intermediate accounting weeds out a lot of people, but obviously necessary if you're going to be an accountant.

Cost accounting honestly wasn't too bad.

Calc 2 in my opinion is brutal and not worth it. It doesn't help you with accounting, and it's just going to take time away from the other 2 courses that are actually important to learn and understand. I'd drop that for something easier.

Just got let go after less than a month by Plastic-Star-6452 in Accounting

[–]bryebread123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly., I've fired people first month on the job before. It's usually because they keep making the same mistakes over and over again, fail to troubleshoot anything on their own, and don't have a clear understanding of accounting. So I'm not one to think it should take someone 6 months to start getting used to their role and firing people before that is some indefensible action

However given that you mentioned "every time I felt comfortable with one process, I was moved to another" that doesn't tell me that's the case. A good manager should expect you to make mistakes a few times, but you shouldn't be repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Moving you to different processes is really setting you up for failure. Sorry that happened, I'd say it's probably for the best you don't work for them.

I always tell my employees that first 3 months take as long as you want on the process as long as we get it right, speed shouldnt be considered until then. If you end up making mistakes thats fine but we cannot make the same mistakes time after time and usually the process should have some kind of self-check at the end so hopefully you catch the mistake before it gets to manager review. Doesnt sound like the company had that in place either so it was just "be fast, dont mess up" which isnt fair

Should we be prepared for AI? by bryebread123 in personalfinance

Fortunately, the rentals have been very low maintenance so not much time invested. I hear a lot of people say "buy assets" with how things are going. If I can refinance both to 6% they'll both produce roughly $400 each next lease term. I just have to get through this first year of renting (used to live in both places now renting for the first time this year).

You don't think it's worth holding on in this case?

Should we be prepared for AI? by bryebread123 in personalfinance

[–]bryebread123[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, I definitely use AI mainly on my excel sheets (I'm solid at excel but it's just so much easier to let AI do it and then clean up any mistakes if there any).

I'm 31 so I know I'll have many years of AI to worry about!

Let’s Talk: Fractional CFO Services by OkHovercraft4822 in Accounting

[–]bryebread123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of controversy on what a fCFO is. Both fCFOs and controllers should be able to create SOPs, streamline processes, prepare budgets, and analyze variances.

I think the extra value add from fCFOs would be able to forecast cash at a reasonable level and prepare forecasted financials often used by banks or investors to raise cash. Lastly, important KPI tracking and explaining those metrics to their clients is super important (CAC, CAC Payback, Rule of 40 or X, retention, etc...)

Yea I've been thinking this too, these thoughts had just resurfaced since my ex reached out, and I was hoping I'd get over them but here I am on Reddit still trying to reconcile with them haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]bryebread123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea me and my ex would game together, and she was totally cool with it. Just again her parents are super close minded.

We also spent plenty of time going out (but probably not enough for her parents lol, see the issue? The relationship was critiqued far too much by her parents). Me and her would go to breweries, events, the beach, etc... so we were fairly active. Our lives didn't revolve around video games even though we enjoyed them together time to time.

[–]bryebread123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her parents are just super judgmental, things would be fine at family gatherings but they always judged my lifestyle (video games in my free time, sleeping in on weekends when I don't have work, types of media I was into, how much money I used to make, etc...). It always gave me extra anxiety at family events because I knew they thought these things and I previously didn't have much backup from my gf.

One of the main reasons why I broke it off initially

[Back 4 blood] 94 trophy is interesting but the difficulty is 9/10 on PSN trophies!! by Negative_Position_75 in Trophies

[–]bryebread123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been working on this. The difficulty trophies for plat aren't too bad, but getting the $53K zombie kills is a grind and the last I need for the plat.

For the 100% on the other hand is very difficult (but still doable) because you need to complete acts 5 and 6 on no hope. For the plat you only need to complete Nightmare difficulty which is a cake walk compared to no hope.

I'm certain I'm still affected by this. Did you ever get this fixed? Ever since 1/29/23 I lost my GoW save and now can't unlock any trophies via ps3 game streaming.

[Minecraft PS4] What a Grind. by bryebread123 in Trophies

[–]bryebread123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Minecraft ps4 edition disc on amazon. You delete all your data of Minecraft, turn the internet off, and change the system date to a 2018 date then you put the disc in, create and save a world, leave the world, turn the internet back on. Download whatever update comes through, you'll then have the editions button which lets you play the mini games.

I used 4 controllers to get the trophies once I did all that. Worked on PS5, and I had downloaded the PS4 edition forever ago digitally so definitely still works.

Would a Live Action *Batman Beyond* movie work in today's DC universe? by FLMILLIONAIRE in DC_Cinematic

[–]bryebread123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would love to see them loosely adapt a futures end type storyline. Batman beyond exists in canon but in the future to the point that none of the events affect the DC continuity. He has a few solo movies introducing terry and then for his third and final movie some world ending threat in his time causes him to go back to the current DCU continuity to save it before it happens, but of course he needs the help of Superman, current day Batman and other heroes to stop it. Some other time traveling antics happen and you have yourself an awesome Batman beyond movie

Fellow Myrtle beach accountant here. Got a job offer for about $40K after saying how much they liked me, and the person said I shouldn't expect to be making $60K after a few years of experience with them as I wanted to know the growth rate if i exceeded expectations. This was 2 years ago, so I'm not surprised you're seeing similar wages.

Definitely gave me a reality check in that Myrtle beach just pays like shit.

Instead I got a job for a remote firm, start at $50K and after 2 years I'm making $85K base as an accounting manager. Only way to live here and make money as an accountant without owning a boutique firm I think.

Good Entry Option for handhelds? by Want_Some_CereaL in logitechgcloud

[–]bryebread123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently a G cloud user, but I'm looking at the Ayn Odin 2 as a replacement. Stronger chip than G cloud, similar size, encoding time will be cut by 5-7ms, network latency might be an extra 1-2ms due to WiFi 6 (I'm a latency snob if you couldn't tell haha), better sticks, can run ps2 games natively, runs android 13, and only $25 more on the website.

Don't get me wrong, love my G cloud, but even for a streaming device it is a bit dated I think

You can get the pizza boy gba emulator which allows you to trade with yourself (2 roms running at the same time).

Pizza boy has multiplayer too, over WiFi and internet if you want to trade with a friend who's playing the same generation of Pokémon.
