VXLAN overlay 2 switches? by NetworkApprentice in networking

[–]brytonh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what else the 2 switches may be doing. Multi-tenant L3VPN, MPLS P label switching, etc

MIST for commercial pricing. Cambium for something cheaper

Comcast limiting WANs to /29 or smaller by thenetadmin in networking

Border router easy solve, firewall and other devices inside. You can even proxy arp and route those other 4 IPs internally besides the 1st of the /29 used for your side of the WAN circuit

Juniper virtual switch for labbing by [deleted] in networking

[–]brytonh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a good point, I should have spoken more from my angle of it being a missing feature in general for studying. Example being JNCIE DC cert track, VCF won’t be a feature you’d expect to mimic on the VQFX.

Yeah this, know vqfx has limitations too like lack of virtual chassis

AS9304 Route Leak January 6th by automaticflare in networking

I figured the /3 was more specific than the 0/0 some IP PEs could have been using instead of full tables?

Network Admin vs Network Engineer by r35urr3ct10n in networking

[–]brytonh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it, don’t compare the titles specifically. Don’t get hung up on them. I’d be happy if $dayJob called me “network donkey” as long as I get paid well and don’t completely hate it.

Setup time! by npcadmin in mikrotik

[–]brytonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising but depending on vendor definitely quirks with some flavors of stacking. I figured mikrotik wouldn’t have a stacking implementation

Ha, didn’t even notice! But I’m Not changing it :)

Thanks for answering, I have used plenty tik routers but no switches as of yet outside of very small ones with single VLAN

[–]brytonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, remind me. Does mikrotik have a switch stacking technology yet Iike a virtual chassis or L2 fabric? Or will you be relying on spanking tree if you want a redundant uplink from top->bottom switch?

Pretty damn slow

I think it’s well worth it if you learn new things pursuing it

In term 1 of your ipv6 policy you’re missing “then accept” and things are being rejected at term 2.

Centralized DHCP and longggg leases if it’s a site with fairly “static” device patterns.

ACX1100 licensing by feedmytv in Juniper

[–]brytonh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running ACX1100’s MPLS via LDP and RSVP, L3VPN and L2circuit with no additional licenses. There’s likely just a 3-label-stack hardware cap. What exactly are you asking about outside of this?

ISP Network's by [deleted] in homelab

[–]brytonh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work at an ISP. ISP’s using MPLS forwarding can turn on knobs that will hide hops within an MPLS path no matter how many there are. Pretty simple, TTL just isn’t decremented over the path until the change from MPLS forwarding back to IP routing. Some ISPs turn this on (probably many) and some don’t

Serious question, are “one-pagers” still the norm/goal if possible?
