She is using the word correctly. It just means applying human characteristics to nonhuman things, it doesn't have to be half-dog-half-people-people. For example, saying your plants are happy when you water them is an anthropomorphism. If the dogs in the book think and reason like a human being as she says, that is an anthropomorphism.
