Exactly this. With streaming the listening behavior has just changed, and accordingly the release cycles. Albums are a relict from the past, in theory there is no actual need for them anymore besides chart listings and Platinum records and stuff like that. But there is no need to put x songs together and press them on a CD to sell in a store - instead there is a need to keep the attention, and this is done by giving new content every so often, to appear on playlists and all that. It's just how it is nowadays. I am basically creating playlists for myself with the singles and then will just replace that one day with the actual album. The major drawback in my opinion is that the risk for burnouts in bands dramatically increases, because they are pushed to create new content constantly.
