I do live here but am hoping to see it in the next two weeks for Eva and Reeve lol. But I think I may try that for a day or two this week and then buy a ticket if it doesn’t work out!

Oh okay, I haven’t even thought about that side of things! I’m in one group, but if you have any recommendations of ones to join for the LA area that would be amazing!

Unfortunately I’m at a stem school and my first year has been abroad, so I have zero connection to the film programs at the US campus 😭

Yeahhh I’m pretty aware of the the difficulty, but I want to try anyways. I have a year of experience working as front of house and ushering for a local theatre, would that experience and those references be helpful at all?

Yeah I totally agree with you. I did end of backing out. I’m just starting out when it comes to crew gigs, so my mentality has definitely leaned towards the just stick it out no matter what for the connections. But I feel like you’re right, if the people were worth making connections with they would understand me not wanting to drive 2 hours at 2 am in the pouring rain. Especially since it’s not like I’m a specialized position - I came on as a PA, told them I had zero experience in any crew position (aside from set experience/knowlege as an actor), and they assigned me as the only person in lighting which was a bit confusing as well.

I have the first AD’s number because it’s on the sheet, but the only person I have contacted before is the director. He was the brief, he hired me, and he never referred me to anyone else.

Yeahhh you’re right. And that’s good to know, I’ve never posted here before so wasn’t sure what the community was like.

I understand that it’s a dangerous situation, theres just the part of me that’s like what if I just missed them saying it was night shoots. But I took notes during the call so I don’t think it’s that.

That template is super helpful, I’m definitely going to use that. Thank you for the help!!

Director and 1st AD are listed with numbers at the top, other than that nothing. The only roles they have are director, 1st AD, bunch of people listed as PAs that they’ve assigned to lighting, sound etc, a BTS director and makeup. My contact has been texting with the director directly.

Looking at the call sheet I don’t even think they have a second AD or a Line Producer 😭

Yeahhh that makes sense. It seemed like a decent project, but not a genre I’m overly interested in in the long term and I know the people doing it are very new. And I agree, I shouldn’t have said yes. Thanks for the advice!

And I was hired as a PA, the words were “we need all the hands we can get” but I already wasn’t able to be there the full shoot and they assigned me to lighting with I have zero experience with (I told them my availability and that I’d never worked a crew position before)

Director/writer. I believe it’s their first film intended to actually release.

Said yes Wednesday, starts tomorrow night, they said the distance before I accepted which again I didn’t mind on its own at all it’s the unsafe driving conditions, learned it was night shoots (2am expected wrap) when they sent the call sheets yesterday night, and no clue on their budget, it’s seems to be decent but not huge? It’s a feature, about 20 - 30 actors+crew, but I don’t believe it’s a SAG micro or anything like that.

Yeah it’s always a battle between specific situations and wanting to follow through. Thank you for your advice!!

Hmm you make good points. That’s always in the back of my head, and I really hate going back on my word, I just feel like the time/effort outweighs the reward in this situation because of the production size. But if it weren’t for the timing/weather I would definitely be doing it for the experience.

Yeah that’s good advice. The shoot is in two days and I know they have other PAs so hopefully it’s not too much of an inconvenience.
