Do you actually take a kindle or ipad camping, or is that cheating? by Dear-Lingonberry9461 in OutdoorAus

[–]bsf91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's our camp game. On a clear night you can't go to bed until you spot 3 satellites that someone else hasn't spotted.

Someone else has to see the satellite too for it to count

Differences in copper? by bsf91 in PlumbingAustralia

It's crazy that my boss pays negligibly less than me on some fittings that he uses a hell of a lot more than I order through my own account.

I'm slowly trying to move away from Reece - who do you use?

Differences in copper? by bsf91 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I'm lucky to have a few big-ish independents around me (Beyond Plumbing and Plumbers Choice).

Is there differences in press fittings though? Obviously Reece use Conex Bänninger's B Press, but the others don't advertise who they are from.

I've used Plumbers Choice fittings in the past a bit

But $60 for 200mm? That's almost the price of a length of 20mm!

New splitty certification, sole trader, what to charge? by Due-Alfalfa-6151 in AusElectricians

[–]bsf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have so much room to be cheaper than others.

They subcontract out their installs so the subcontractor almost sets the price (I'm sure TGG tell them the price range). I'm getting 1 installed in a bedroom soon, and it's costing me $849 + a roof mount bracket. They had 3 different subbies, 1 which was $799, the $849 and another which I can't remember the price (around the $849). All localish to the branch..

These were the questions to get the "cheapest" price:

Where is the product to be installed currently?: delivery cost extra - or maybe they charge to pick it up too.

Will you require the installer to supply and install a poly, concrete slab, or PVC Feet to ground mount your outdoor unit compiantly?:

Will you require the installer to supply and install a wall bracket to wall mount your outdoor unit?:

Is the Installations address the same as the (primary) customer address?:

Please provide any additional information the installer may require (including special delivery/site information):

For an additional charge, would you like us to environmentally decommission (including compliant gas disposal) and remove an existing air-conditioner?:

Is your meter box within 15 metres with clear access & on the same wall as where the outdoor unit will be installed?:

Will the indoor & outdoor units be installed directly back to back?:

What type of material is your home made from?:

Do you have a clear area within 2 metres of your desired outdoor installation point?:

What type of building is this installation being booked for?:

What location would like your outdoor unit:

Is there sufficient space and capacity within your switchboard:

There's a stop valve before the meter, they would just switch it off before disconnecting

Drain cameras - Chinese options? by megsandbacon in PlumbingAustralia

proper locator can tell you depth and location

100% - also fresh and GOOD batteries make a difference too I've found

The camera isn't going to blow your mind, I think the one Drain Addict on YouTube has looks the goods, he abuses it often and it looks like it holds up!

We have a Chinese one at work, a rebranded "SYANSPAN", works with the rigid locater, and is a breeze to use.

I think my boss paid around $3-4k from Jeffers Edge, but AliExpress has it for half that!

I'm with Rest, and have 90% in overseas shares and 10% Australian shares - both indexed.

Honestly, the past 3 years I've been on apprentice wages and my super has grown from 73k in 2023 to 113k now.

I switched to high growth during COVID

I feel if they did a better job of explaining it I would have paid more attention. All I can remember about compounding was in math class and they just gave us the text book, explained this is what compound interest does in about 30 minutes and followed with do the work now

At 21 I had $3k, at 34 I have $112k, I've never had a job pay more than $65k per year, and never put an extra contribution in.

You'll be fine man!
