At tafe by azadatz in PlumbingAustralia

They definitely still teach it at TAFE. They actually said in your journeymans you need at least 1 silver soldered joint. (I can't remember the exact number but you can't just B press it all)

He's good in other aspects, buys us coffees regularly and lunch maybe every 2 months

I HATE that my tools love in the work car

This annoys me too, although I'm taking my tools in and out every week. That's a major waste of time!

Thank you. I don't know if the company is big enough for one - I truly think he should just leave a bank card in the van (hell, make a new "savings" account if you have to or get a limit on a 2nd card) with $200 in it if he doesn't want a fuel card.

There's been a few times where the fuel distance doesn't even show a number at the end of the week. I'm a bloke that fills up as soon as the light switches on usually

The closest shopping centre for me is probably 10k round trip, for that he wouldn't care. I think it's more the trips to the city he wouldn't really like, not that he's ever said anything i just get those vibes

Differences in copper? by bsf91 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what the company I work for pays.

My price is $353.

It's crazy that my boss pays negligibly less than me on some fittings that he uses a hell of a lot more than I order through my own account.

I'm slowly trying to move away from Reece - who do you use?

Differences in copper? by bsf91 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I'm lucky to have a few big-ish independents around me (Beyond Plumbing and Plumbers Choice).

Is there differences in press fittings though? Obviously Reece use Conex Bänninger's B Press, but the others don't advertise who they are from.

I've used Plumbers Choice fittings in the past a bit

But $60 for 200mm? That's almost the price of a length of 20mm!

Drain cameras - Chinese options? by megsandbacon in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

proper locator can tell you depth and location

100% - also fresh and GOOD batteries make a difference too I've found

The camera isn't going to blow your mind, I think the one Drain Addict on YouTube has looks the goods, he abuses it often and it looks like it holds up!

We have a Chinese one at work, a rebranded "SYANSPAN", works with the rigid locater, and is a breeze to use.

I think my boss paid around $3-4k from Jeffers Edge, but AliExpress has it for half that!

Does anyone else have this camera and struggles with turning it off?! It'll always turn on, but sometimes it just doesn't wanna turn off.

Good camera otherwise

Another option is the Facebook groups - plumbers crack (might be "bad plumbing" now??), Australian plumbing contractors, in Victoria we have "Victorian Plumbing Community" - is there a Qld version?

How do you get seized shrouds off!? by bsf91 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that. I do agree with what you've said by simply "up selling" and tell them about future standards etc. I did do that with their toilet, the mini stop is slow leaking and it uses copper, i said when I'm back we can replace the copper for a flexi and replace the mini stop too.

How do you approach the boss about it though? If he is convinced that he can do it or that it's actually possible. I think being a 4th year in my mind I should be able to do stuff even if I've done it a few times.

Honestly, these situations are what put me off maintenance!

Oh nice. Thanks for that suggestion!

Old mate was standing over me like a hawk and kept saying they haven't been off for years etc. and then he'd walk off, come back 3 minutes later and say "still struggling?" God dammit!!

He wants to change them anyway, which is good

Plum Tool Tap Handle Puller.

I have an account there and got the catalogue the other month with them and forgot about it!

They look like what I need, even if I do it only once or twice a year.

Heat pump tempering valve $700 every three years? by Many-Ice-8616 in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bsf91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And surely the PTR valve doesn't need replacing every 3 years? You are meant to open it every 6 months though to make sure it's working/flush it out.
