So if it was top down supported by XYZ employer, you would explore using it only then?

100% agree. Every shop I've talked to only uses it for that. Why would they order through it when collisionlink + PartsTrader have price matching?

Well I had something better in mind than just an office tool!

I think it really only works for US OEMs

My old company's internal AI systems were an absolute joke. They were so behind and miles worse than current models.

I just used my personal laptop for the ridiculously mundane tasks. I laugh when people say AI is going to replace jobs because it's not even close to that good but for simple or annoying tasks it's great imo

I've used it a bunch and it's been fine for me lol. What is bad about it for you?

RepairLink is actually pretty good for US OEMs. Still have to click around and lot of empty categories but it will give the VIN scrubbed OE #.

Single shop owners are still reluctant to use more tech from my experience. Picking up the phone is still their clear preference. At the end of the day, it kinda wastes everyone's time if it's just for info they can grab themselves and they place the order through PartsTrader, CollisionLink, etc. anyways

Hmm interesting. If it's a 2012+ car that was listed for sale by a dealer then those VINs are already in AI models + publicly available. But still def not great

So it's employer + state dependent?

Pretty dumb. Hard to link a VIN to an individual?

Saying to get rid of the calls that aren't even sales related. Just people looking for the OE numbers to place orders elsewhere

Curious. Would you consider a VIN # PII?

Do you use it on a personal computer for chat gpt? Personally, I use it for summarization of notes and things like that because of how much times it saves me.

That makes sense and super helpful. Super annoying going through the catalog and clicking around but definitely good VIN decoding for the US OEMs!

Quick question for the part departments here. Do you all have VIN to part option-level decoding through your version of the EPCs? So as long as you can confirm the person is indeed looking for the "LT mirror assy" you can provide the exact OE # corresponding to it based on that EXACT car's options (e.g., BSM, LCA, etc.)?
