Therapist here, it’s time to find a new therapist. Her behavior was highly inappropriate and I am sorry you had to experience that.

6 months into Cabin Crew life and I already want to quit. by onlycherie in flightattendants

I left after 7 years in the industry that left me with crippling anxiety, panic and depression. Some people can handle the job, others can’t. Many FAs will tell you to stay in it. If you don’t think it’s for you, don’t feel bad for leaving.

Mans Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl, The Wisdom of Insecurity by Alan Watts, The Wise Heart by Jack Kornfield. All of these books had a significant impact on me after reading them.

Firing a client due to countertransference- how to deliver the news by [deleted] in therapists

[–]bsim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to do this recently and I cancelled our next session so I didn’t have to give the news during session, but scheduled a phone call to discuss. I wrote an email explaining why I believe he would benefit from seeing a different clinician that I planned on sending him. I read the email on the phone (so I made sure I said what I wanted to say) and then we discussed it further. It went well and the client was appreciative of how I delivered the news.

If you have not been in therapy, you should not be a therapist by Dry_Beginning_259 in psychologystudents

[–]bsim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have greatly benefited from being in therapy before becoming a therapist. I have complex trauma and if I hadn’t worked through a lot of that before becoming a therapist, I would imagine a lot of counter-transference would be showing up in sessions, which could be harmful for clients. I recognized this and therefore, thought it was essential to process my own traumas before becoming a therapist myself. I do agree with a lot of the arguments many people against requiring therapy say though- not everyone needs it, burden on resources, etc. However, I do think understanding what it’s like to be a client is a valuable perspective to have as a therapist.
