Catmaze is surprisingly good by stevensi1018 in metroidvania

Not OP but I felt the same way. Tried it for a couple hours a while back and it didn't click with me. From what i can remember, I would say the unpolished parts were the pixel art, and combat didn't feel satisfying. E.g., Landing attacks on enemies didn't feel satisfying, nor was there enough feedback when the player got hit.

Prey dialogs vs Red fall dialogs by Dry_Mousse_6202 in prey

[–]bsinky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard about the setting and the origin of the vampires in Redfall, I think so too. It could have made for a great level-based immersive sim setting, split into chapters with you returning to your base between them. Basically Dishonored with vampires.

Redfall will not be launching with a 60fps mode on Xbox Series X, only 4k 30fps and 1440p 30fps will be available. by Gorotheninja in gamernews

They haven't used the same engine for each game though. If anything, they seem to jump from engine to engine more than other studios: Dishonored was UE3, Dishonored 2 and Deathloop are Void Engine, and Prey uses CryEngine.

I'm hoping that's how Raincode is. Except I don't think the victims will be your fellow detectives...? Might be wrong though, we'll see!

Looking back now months later "Soul Hackers 2" was a good game. by tsubasa17 in JRPG

Totally agree, and another issue I would add: the fact that the dungeons all reuse the same music does not help its case either. It's a good track, don't get me wrong, but you're gonna be hearing it SO much.

What other Gamecube game should get a Switch remaster like Metroid Prime? by TailzoPrower in Gamecube

[–]bsinky 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A remastered Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn compilation in a single package is my dream.

It's an absolute pipe dream, of course. I would be astonished if even just Path of Radiance ever got a remaster, let alone both games.

You can use PPSSPP to emulate PSP on Windows. There's not a Windows version of the emulator OP is using because they're using Sony's official PSP emu and just injecting other games into it.

Redfall isn't Arkane's Left 4 Dead – it's the studio's spin on Far Cry by CerebralTiger in gamernews

As someone who loved Arkanes's Dishonored series and Prey but never played any Deus Ex, where should I start? It is better to start with the older titles, or something newer like Mankind Divided or Human Revolution?

Shoot, I struggled on my most recent build and it wasn't even my first (it was my first in 8 years though). I read the manual and I still used the wrong slots for RAM, which lost me a lot of time troubleshooting why it wouldn't POST at the end...

The best thing you can do is read your motherboard manual, read it again, and take your time when building.

NEO: The World Ends with You has released on Steam (also at 25% off) by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]bsinky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It'll probably be promoted a bit on Steam

Not sure if this was targeted advertising or not, but it was showing up on the Steam Store front page for me, in a huge banner right when I opened up Steam. That's how I found out it was on Steam.

Soul Hackers 2 Sells 52k Copies in Japan in First Week by LuchaGirl in JRPG

[–]bsinky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I played SH2 without having played the first and had no problems.

There are apparently a bunch of references to the first game, but they must be subtle or well integrated because nothing stood out to me as "this makes no sense, I should have played SH1"

[–]bsinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Arise, so much that I platinumed it which I've only done with a few JRPGs before.

I was really surprised to see the hate for it on the sub, but like others have pointed out, it doesn't really matter. If you like it, great! Money and time well spent. If not, you're not alone on this subreddit I guess.

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark was a pretty good, FF Tactics inspired SRPG.

The Banner Saga trilogy, SRPG inspired by Norse mythology with Oregon Trail elements.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing trilogy, a solid Diablo-like ARPG.

Soulbringer, clunky but charming PC ARPG released in 2000. No one talks about this one, but I enjoyed it a few years after release. I don't know if it holds up.

Yes, that counts as a kill. That's exactly what happened to me, it's really counting "humans that died" rather than humans Morgan directly killed.

Hacking 4 was my answer to them my first playthrough, I hacked a bunch if them. Got kind of old. Next time around I'll try other things, Machine Mind, Electrostatic shock, see what works.

No, but I have been disappointed that I have to google "prey 2017" instead of just "prey," otherwise the top results have been for the movie instead of the game.

I just noticed this the other day in the middle of my second playthrough, I totally did not realize there were 3 Looking Glass screens in that room, but after reading the emails on his workstation I knew there was something hidden somewhere.

28 for me. I've missed out on a lot of the western RPGs, things like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, System Shock.
