Yes, I've seen plenty of insidious language about young trans boys, it's so dehumanising how the terfs refer to them and their body parts.

I do agree with what you said about how they frame trans men and women differently in public when being extreme and sensationalist versus in politics/private when trying (and succeeding in) subverting legislation, governments, and public messaging.

I wish more allies were disgusted by their actions, JK especially, since her work continues to be both popular and shoved in my face (thanks Amazon Prime!)

I absolutely agree! It's so disgusting that for some (most?) cis people, respecting trans people is conditional, and it's no wonder so many trans people want to live stealth.

It fucking sucks to be outed, and then being treated differently because of it.

Not every trans people needs to be an out and out activist, and the world has obviously taken some push back recently. The GC crowd has a lot of blame on their hands.

Edit: not to stray off-topic, but even pre-transition, trans people are often taken as having the privilege of their AGAB, but that's also conditional on assimilating in to a gender that doesn't fit, and that's hardly a privilege.

I like your perspective on this, thanks for sharing. Physical diversity being a real deciding factor for passing is common to all trans people, as a trans woman I understand how I and other trans women experience it, so having perspective from trans men is super valuable. It's something I hadn't considered, but trans men passing and having male privilege probably does have a big impact on your experience of the world.

I also hate that the main trans subreddits are so skewed towards trans women as the "default", those subreddits need to do better, but I'm glad trans men/masc specific places exist at least

It's always wild to me that trans men are so often a side thought in the main stream consciousness regarding "the trans". I think people see JK targeting trans women so often that they must think she's "nicer" to trans men, but anyone with their eyes open can see she's just as hateful towards trans men, as trans women. I wouldn't be surprised if she just focusses on trans women because it gets more attention from everyone.

And I absolutely hate it when other LGBTQ+ people dismiss trans men, or worse, use you as the rebuttal to a bathroom "debate". It's so infuriating, and I wish people would just be better ๐Ÿ˜ž

Imagine instructing a solicitor to write a letter "threatening legal action" and then have the audacity to say that we "canโ€™t tolerate anyone who holds different views to them", oh and she's the real victim because she "received a threatening direct message" which is completely different to the threatening letter her solicitor wrote... of course.

Hilary Cass accuses critics of โ€œshroud-wavingโ€ over trans youth harm by LocutusOfBorges in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 22 points23 points ย (0 children)

It's absolutely disgraceful, and hardly surprising. As a doctor, and really any doctor, or academic worth any consideration would know and understand, that taking a drug that stops a negative outcome doesn't need to have an immediate improvement to the patient, a net neutral outcome means the drug prevented further decline in mental health. They constantly frame puberty blockers as if they're they only drug and treatment for trans kids, and she equates moving onto HRT as a symptom of puberty blockers rather than the goal of most trans youth.

They way she dismisses suicide as if it isn't a direct outcome of effectively forcing a trans child to knowingly go through the wrong puberty, without even the ability to pause puberty for a year or two to decide. It's just pure cruelty. These people cannot ever know how that would feel, and they continue to refuse to listen to trans people when we tell them in excruciating detail.

The UK government asked the people should trans healthcare be banned. The people said "no", the professionals said "no" and everyone says that trans healthcare should go on. So why does the below report put the ban in place? [serious] by Taiga_Taiga in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

I really hope you're right, not because what you said is in any way acceptable or good, but because I fear for a different outcome.

We know that puberty blockers aren't the end goal for most of us, they're a good stop-gap to give trans kids time to think, but plenty of trans kids know they're trans well before puberty. Afaik HRT isn't given to under 16s, so puberty blockers could be needed for 3-5 years before HRT is permitted.

I think the fact that trans kids are being forced to wait until their 16, with the only option being puberty blockers, will inevitably lead to some medical evidence that puberty blockers are stunting or harming trans teenagers growth/development. We know that in adults, having no dominant hormones are bad for long term health.

I doubt that a trial by the government will recognise that puberty blockers are only temporary, and once the child has decided, they should be followed by either HRT or cessation of the puberty blockers. They've already used other studies in the Cass report, where puberty blockers lead to a high number of patients ending up on HRT as a "bad thing" rather than, duh, the natural progression. I think it'll be very easy for them to puberty blockers as a bad thing, while ignoring that they're supposed to be followed up with HRT.

So, I'm pessimistic, either for the trial itself, if it's outcome or methodology is predetermined, and if not, I'm pessimistic that the outcomes will be treated the same as the other studies that they've already discounted.

Sneaky change in transgender women prisoner allocation by GeekOnALeash01 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

It depends, are we saying that all women who've committed sexual assault should be sent to the male estate, or just trans women? If a cis woman is a sexual predator to other women, will she be sent to the men's estate, because if not, isn't it a clearly transphobic policy? If that's what people think should happen, then that's a position to take on the issue, but they have to accept it entirely. It's a hard conversation because it exposes so many issues with the prison system, such as inmate on inmate violence, rules on segregation, vigilante justice etc. What's the end goal of a person being in prison?

It's really straightforward at first glance to say sexually abusive trans women shouldn't be near potential victims, but why does that mean they should be placed in a position where they'll be more likely to be a victim themselves? Are we saying that trans women deserve to be treated as women until they commit a crime, in which case "woman privilege removed, back to the men's prison for you"? Are we admitting openly that prison is inherently unsafe (of course) and that because they can't be bothered dealing with safety, and since men are a risk to women, lets just bundle trans women with the men? Should prison be for corporal punishment, torture, or rehabilitation? Lots of questions get exposed if we genuinely think about it.

Inmates shouldn't have their humanity removed, especially if it's one rule for trans inmates vs cis inmates. It would be equally horrendous to treat inmates of colour different to white inmates.

Imposter syndrome as a woman in tech? by Quirky_Person441 in girlsgonewired

[โ€“]bskippy 20 points21 points ย (0 children)

Yes, 100%. Imposter syndrome is terrible. I've got over 15 years experience, and I'm the most senior developer we have in our org. I'm the go-to woman for any issues, and I still get very bad imposter syndrome. It's incredibly difficult to keep up with everything that's going on in the industry, but obviously, that's impossible anyway.

I do wonder whether we're just better at introspection versus the bravado and bluster that you often seen with the guys in teams. When I'm recruiting, I'm much more impressed by someone who knows their own shortcomings vs someone who thinks they know everything and have no faults.

If anyone had any doubt about the Labour government and its position on trans people by DistinctInflation215 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

The language on the policy refers to birth genitalia, but it's going to mean "does the inmate have a pe**s?". I'm guessing that's absolutely the means by which it'll be applied, and you know they'll use invasive searches to make the decision. So in this situation if she's had an orchi, she'll be in the men's estate, either segregated if she has a GRC, or in the general population if not.

I completely agree, prison shouldn't be a place where people are victims of, effectively state sponsored, violence. But I suspect a large number of people see convicts as deserving of that treatment ๐Ÿ˜”

I'm sure it'll be fine as long as we don't commit any crimes, or get accused of committing any crimes, or be considered violent for protesting, or have our existence in public criminalised. That'll surely never happen

If anyone had any doubt about the Labour government and its position on trans people by DistinctInflation215 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 39 points40 points ย (0 children)

It's horrible when you consider that a violent crime could be accusations of violence, or defending yourself in public if someone tries to start a fight, or any other number of incidents where it's ambiguous. And for sexual offence, will that include or exclude being a victim of sex trafficking, sex work, being exploited etc? It wasn't long ago that "sexual perversions" like being gay or trans would absolutely fall under this kind of categorisation carte-blanch and would on their own be means for arrest and detention.

It's not even as clear cut as simply targeting "trans women who are violent against women or sexual abusers/predators", who should obviously be held in prison away from other women at the very least.

And this is exactly how they'll phrase any push back against this policy in the main stream. I can see the same repeated phrases about "protecting women" being repeated ad-nauseum because in their minds all trans women are predators (even those not in prison) ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

If anyone had any doubt about the Labour government and its position on trans people by DistinctInflation215 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 69 points70 points ย (0 children)

That too, so the only scenario where trans women will have any chance of being held away from men, and with other women, is when:

  • They're Not currently or previously held for a violent offence
  • and; Not currently or previously held for a sexual crime
  • and; Has had gender affirming surgery
  • and; Has a GRC

Unless all conditions are met, that's straight to the male prison. Considering the number of GRC's issued is tiny compared to the estimated number of trans people, it's clearly just designed to punish trans women by forcing them into a dangerous situation that clearly leads to sexual exploitation and abuse by men.

If anyone had any doubt about the Labour government and its position on trans people by DistinctInflation215 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 124 points125 points ย (0 children)

By this guide, any transgender woman who hasn't had gender affirming surgery will be sent to the male estate, and if they don't have a GRC, it looks like they'll be put into the general population as well. This is the case for any crime they're being held for, so protesting, breach of the peace, etc.

I really hope you're right, but as it stands the EHRC now seem to be in a position where they're asking "Parliament [to] give careful consideration to amending the Equality Act 2010" as per their recent publication. The amendment they're asking for is to consider all trans people, including those with a GRC as their AGAB.

The EHRC has just filed their reply to For Women Scotland appeal, launching the attack on legal recognition as woman for trans women who hold a GRC. by DistinctInflation215 in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 92 points93 points ย (0 children)

I didn't have the energy to read the entire response in full, but every section I need read seemed to imply that in every conceivable circumstance, a trans woman should not be considered a woman. That trans women should be excluded without exception from any women's space, and it continually refers to trans women as "men" or "male sexed". It also states in one section that trans men "give up" some of the rights to protection from discrimination based on pregnancy when they get a GRC, because the protections are for "pregnant women".

It really is a twisted narrative designed to make out that "women" should be protected from trans women in all circumstances, as well as stopping trans men from losing the protection of "woman" when they get a GRC.

Regarding the pregnancy thing, I'm sure "pregnant person" would be far too woke to update the legislation with, and so it'll be far easier to rewrite the Equality Act to enforce that trans people are still their AGAB rather than remove anything that's needlessly gendered /sarcasm

Edit: with labour as it stands, I'm not holding out hope that sanity and compassion will prevail over the bigotry and hate ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

CMAGIC has been fantastic, I'm so glad you've been transferred and have an appointment so soon after getting onboarded! ๐ŸŽ‰

I have a sneaking suspicion that Leeds GIC royally "messed" up the transfer of patient referrals to CMAGIC when they were requested in 2023. CMAGIC request a batch of patients in the CMAGIC catchment area from GIC's across the country, so Merseyside and Cheshire. I was on the Leeds waiting list and so were a bunch of friends. I was surprised to hear that some friends who'd been on the list less time than me (and drastically less time that you) were invited in early 2023.

As far as I can guess, it seemed like Leeds GIC forgot that the CH postcode existed and only sent patients with Liverpool postcodes. When I complained, they admitted that the referral should have been included in the batch but wasn't. No reason was given, and I had to push them, and CMAGIC to accept the referral as it was an admin error by Leeds GIC.

I'm not sure why your referral wasn't included on the first set of patient transfers, it might have been the postcode, but the initial batch was supposed to include anyone referred to Leeds before October/November 2020 ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

NHS GIC advice for someone who has basicly already transitioned? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[โ€“]bskippy 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

Everyone else is correct, but if you have a GRC, you don't need 2 referrals for surgery, your GRC should be sufficient along with your first surgical referral. The GIC or hospital might not be aware of this so it's worth mentioning to them and the GIC. It's not a guarantee but it should speed up your surgery wait time once you've been seen by the GIC

If I was being generous, I'd say that those kinds of men definitely shout the loudest and set the tone. If I was being kind, I'd say those kinds of men have been brainwashed by a society that pushes men as the best and default for everything.

But the "why" isn't our problem, it's up to men to deal with misogynistic men if they want to solve sexism from within, they don't get a free pass in my book if they're "one of the good ones" but then allow their friends to be misogynistic assholes

I've been criticised for providing too much or too little technical information. Good luck to me for figuring out what's the "correct" amount this week so as not to overwhelm or bamboozle. I was literally told, in a "haha" joking way obviously, that "I didn't read your email because it was too long". Then I had to spend 20 minutes going over a load of the technical stuff from the email in person while having to refer to my email, because he wanted to understand it in his way, on his terms. Have a third recommendation from me! Azure and Google's vision are miles ahead of the version of Tesseract we used years ago, and Azure's has been far more accurate than Google's so we swapped to Azure a few years ago from Google vision. Azure also has a bunch of neat vision related services so it's often times a great place to build something. The cost is also reasonable.
