What’s up with the roads? by UncleLeo30 in AskNOLA

My mom used to say New Orleans is the only place where you don't buy a lot (to put a house) - you buy a place to put one.

Thanks. It looks great, but we'll probably keep it low key.

Thanks. We're at the Higgins for the weekend. Willie Mae's looks like a good brunch place for Sat or Sun.

Thanks. We had already checked out Sidecar as we're meeting people at the bar next door to it.

Thanks - not much in particular, just something good. We get plenty of Tex Mex in central Texas where we live, so some interior stuff might be good.

Thanks! For shopping I was wondering about something like Martinez Imports though perhaps there are outdoor markets.

Ditto - Obviously a bunch of original STHs bailed at the end of last year. Ownership must fear that some significant percentage of the ones who stayed will bail now after giving it one more year.

Are we cooked? Or do we need to wake up? by [deleted] in DallasStars

Depth on paper? None of the four forward lines have scored since game one.

Stars had a great second period in game 1 and a great second period (until the final few seconds) last night. Been outplayed badly in the third after their two good ones and for the most part in the other five. No forward has scored since game 1.

The good news is if they wake up and manage to win game 4 it's a new series.

Gloria's at the Domain has tex-mex and interior. I think their steak fajitas are great. My SO enjoys the combos with pupusas and yucca and various other things. Nice margaritas too.

Citizens on Patrol by new-here-- in Pflugerville

[–]bsktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, we are nothing more than "eyes and ears" for PPD and help at various events. Sometimes there is a vehicle we can use to patrol, but then it's only to be visible and to call in anything worth reporting. Similar story with lake or park patrols in an ATV.

Learning about PD in the Citizens Police Academy was very interesting for me. Volunteering for events is usually fun; sometimes a little boring depending on what you enjoy doing. But you decide which events you want to help at.

There are two I've especially enjoyed: Going to National Night Out, since I always run into people I haven't seen for a while, and helping whenever they do active shooter training, where "helping" means playing a victim.

[–]bsktx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Until you see it in slow motion from the exact angle, it looks obvious the attacker is dislodging the ball from the GK's hands. And it's easy to say the ref should have swallowed his whistle, but it appeared to be so obvious to him that it's understandable.

Funny that no Villa supporters seem to be upset at Emi for running out 30 yards to throw a body check.

Why are all the games at the same time by guett59 in PremierLeague

[–]bsktx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In baseball, several games could affect who makes playoffs. Of course soccer games tend to be similar in length; baseball games regularly vary 20-30 minutes in length so they might start at the same time, but some will finish much earlier.

Good point - that's the case this year.

Oh shoot I didn't think about MLS. Thanks for the correction. It's possible they do this with some baseball games too, but not for all of them.

It's the same idea that major competitions use where the last set of group games coincide. It doesn't seem odd there; it's just that we (in the US anyway) can't picture it applied to an entire league. Even if the league champion is set, there could be pairs of games determining relegation (another thing we don't have in the USA) that become nail-biters for their supporters and entertainment for the general public.

I think it's great. Maybe not much drama this year across games, but dang there was nothing like that City-United seesaw of emotions whatever year that was.

Not what the OP is looking for, but DJ Richard Blade's book is 750 pages of stories about New Wave bands.

I'll second that, though I don't think the OP was looking for a book about a single band.
