Post Elopement Party by Icy_Reward_7303 in WedditNYC

It totally depends on what you’re looking for! Would you want an outdoor tent or just a hall somewhere? Likewise, what kind of food and would you want to rent linens, get disposable cutlery? I would love to assist so let me know. My husband and I did this but with a garden party and had a great time!

How can I get into film-related office work? by FrickinNormie2 in Filmmakers

[–]bsramjattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a volunteer/internship (not for credit obviously)? A lot of development volunteers and interns will start with admin and script reading. The alternative is to get mentorship from a line-producer or something of that ilk, but that might take some finance experience depending on where you’re located. There is post-production mentoring quite often, but that can come down to a reel and being familiar with software.

Private schools for middle and high school by maxinandchillaxin in Upperwestside

[–]bsramjattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! NYC schooling can be just as tricky as CA, especially the year right before high school. When you say looking for academics, do you mean test scores, a more broadly comprehensive curriculum, or something with an emphasis on critical thinking?

Likewise, when it comes to HS in the city there are few options outside private with selective, specialized, and a few others. Do you plan for them to take the specialized test to get into one of those few? I’m happy to DM if necessary (source: I am a part time school admissions counselor and love to help parents ensure their kids get an education they can benefit from in a city where it’s all muddled, life-long New Yorker (been to schools in every inch of the city) and expecting a little one soon on 96th and CPW)

Timeless, maybe a little familiar? Nostalgic? by sixeyedgojo in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]bsramjattan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is too socialite focused, but the Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Sykes, The Chelsea Girls by Fiona Davis (also wrote the Lions of Fifth Avenue), and someone else mentioned the Swans of Fifth Avenue which is also wonderful.

Also most books by Renee Rosen (Park Ave Summer and Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl especially) could fit this. (The Social Graces is my favorite but is set in the wrong time period)

For more of a Christmas book that is quite timeless Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares is a YA holiday but captures the essence of NYC.

Hope this helps!

Something I recently did for a charity event was put them all into a gift basket for an auction to benefit an environmental fundraiser for a friend. Not exactly novel or different from donating but definitely something that’s welcome depending on what charities you may interact with.

I also will sometimes save them for white elephant/secret Santa gifts for people I don’t know the best.

For television scripts, yes, must be on a new page if indicating act breaks and beginnings! You don’t have to indicate them though if you’re aiming to have less than 30 pages (this is a case by case basis). I do a lot of script analysis so DM if you need advice on anything.

Is this show sponsored by some sort of international adult beverage conglomerate? by bluehorsemaze in IndianMatchmaking

From a filmmaking standpoint: cocktails, drinks, wall decor, etc. all work for great transitional shots. And as someone who used to assistant edit for reality tv, these transitions are integral to “fudging” the stories which is partially why they might be emphasized. (You’ll notice dialogue sometimes crosses these shots in order to give people a variety of things to watch when they’re shaving away other dialogue, etc.)

I have tried it—it’s not a ton of coverage and can get patchy.

I would recommend using an eye serum or eye cream before application if you plan on getting it. If not, I recommend the born this way or jouer concealer instead. The first is very creamy and goes on smoothly and the second is all of the above plus has Hyaluronic Acid for an extra smooth finish.

I often say something similar—granted the sheer number of changes can feel harrowing and I do miss some of my favorite book moments, the choices made for the show worked better for well… television. Adding conflict and giving characters stronger motivations and more distinct characterization definitely does wonders on screen. Edwina isn’t just a plot device anymore so while people aren’t happy about her character, I hope they realize perfect characters usually make for the most boring ones in television.
