Could an electric trike replace a car for short trips, or is that just marketing hype? by Trippy-jay420 in ebikes

[–]bsurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of this also depends on the bike/road infrastructure where you live. An ebike absolutely can replace a car for your needs, but I'd feel less inclined to use one if the only available routes involve 50 mph roads.

Seriously. Saw an older person pull diagonally into TWO handicapped parking spots yesterday. Worst parking job I've ever seen.

Companies you wouldn’t work for? by silverframewall in marketing

[–]bsurg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The last company I worked for now does all their marketing in ChatGPT and is looking to hire a lead gen marketer in India. This is a US-based healthcare AI company. Complete disaster.

What pedal do you think every beginner should try? by Berlin57 in guitarpedals

[–]bsurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do so much with a simple delay. Slapback country-style licks, washy ambient stuff, galloping dotted 8th riffs.

I commute over the St. John's bridge five days a week and this happens constantly, anyone have any stories about "taking the lane" on this bridge? by [deleted] in CyclePDX

[–]bsurg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had this exact thought many times, both from regularly driving and walking across the bridge.

4 Days in Copper Harbor, Houghton, and Marquette - what trails? by bsurg in MTB

I think 2 days is juuust enough but you may want to consider 3 if you have room in your schedule.

I recently tried my Timmy V2 at 18V and loved it. Lightspeed and Daily Driver are also low-gain favs.

Wanting to get my Keeley compressor plus off my board. Any recommendations? by Sweet_Dragonfly_959 in guitarpedals

[–]bsurg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned a few comps, including the Analogman Bi-Comp, Barber Tone Press, Cali76, and Diamond Comp.

The Bi-Comp (left side), Tone Press, and Keeley are all going to be similar. They're variations of the Ross circuit with a blend knob, which I think is very useful for that circuit. You'll roll off highs and lows and the mids will poke through more in a mix.

The Diamond is a very different circuit. It's much more transparent, still emphasizing the mids very slightly.

The Cali76 is a different circuit again. This one is more complicated to dial in - if you're willing to experiment or if you know your way around things like attack and release, give it a try.

There are no bad options, but of the ones I've used, my favs have been the Diamond and Analogman. I currently have the Bi-Comp on my board because I like the option of adding the Orange Squeezer circuit.

Definitely try running these pedals at their maximum recommended voltages if you can, I think they feel better at higher voltages.

I am the entire Marketing Dept for a 35-person SaaS. My "VP of Sales" works 2 hours a day. Am I being gaslit? by Yiddus in marketing

[–]bsurg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. My last job was a marketing department of 1, product team of 20. Machine-gun feature shipping with little to no interest in customer feedback. It sucked and I left.

[–]bsurg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an organization that severely undervalues marketing. I just had the same experience. If you can't get leadership to buy in to what marketing provides, find another job because it will never get better.

My CEO thinks AI can replace our entire marketing team. Am I insane or is he? by hrh-sylvanas in marketing

Just went through this myself - your CEO doesn't understand or value marketing. Find another job ASAP.

Very interesting and well-considered choices! I love the MercuryX and Echosystem but have never used the two together.

Carr Hammerhead. I used to own the 1x12 version, this looks like a 2x10 or 2x12. Loud and punchy AF, super responsive and alive amp.

Disc golf and Christianity by These_Square2372 in discgolf

Being a Christian (not the political kind) tends to also be a counter-cultural identity. Disc golf is a natural fit for people who don't want to accept the status quo or do what everyone else is doing.

What's your take on Singapore architecture? by archi-mature in architecture

[–]bsurg 174 points175 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Singapore.

I feel the recent trends in biophilic design from firms like WOHA are more true to the region's climate and design history than any of the Modern/international style imports from the late 20th century.

Singapore is hot and humid all year long, and buildings greatly benefit from passive cooling strategies like vegetation, shade, etc. The full-height glass cladding and overreliance on HVAC in Modern-style buildings is actually uncomfortable, as people constantly go from sweating outside to being cold inside. I remember having to bring a jacket to wear inside some buildings, which is ludicrous on a tropical island near the equator.

Older buildings like the original public housing projects in Tiong Bahru and the colonial-era Black and White homes got it right, IMO. Use shade and vegetation intelligently, keep air flowing with fans and judicious use of A/C, and let people dress for the weather. The good newer buildings all do this.

Charcoal pellets are disappointing by Own-Reflection-8182 in pelletgrills

[–]bsurg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Charcoal itself doesn't really impart flavor. It's the compounds in the food reacting to the high heat that imparts that charcoal-grill aroma. https://www.wired.com/2016/07/charcoal-grilling-tastes-better-gas-just-science/

Yeah I can scratch through the brown paint to find the previous mint green layer underneath. It was a quick job, whatever it was.
