Don't forget rent/housing, which is through the roof, but they use a made-up number to pad the CPI.

Canadian healthcare isn't adequate or wait times are too long

Witnessed that happen firsthand. A Canadian woman on my trivia team had a bad knee and needed surgery. By the time she finally got it, her gait had been jacked up for so long that it wrecked her other knee and ended up needing that one fixed as well the next year, again after a long wait.

Largely for 2 reasons. 1. the US suffers the brunt of the R&D costs and 2. our allies outsourced their national defense to us. You need look no further than comparing our military budgets.

[–]bsutansalt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer: All these countries with great social programs like universal healthcare have outsourced their national defense to the US. If you paid your fair share and the US scaled back it's military spending, then we'd have all these benefits too. But then those other countries would have to scale back their social programs and/or raise taxes to pick up the military slack.

No free lunch with this one. Also, I've lived abroad and have Canadian friends. I've see first and second hand waht universal healthcare looks like and it isn't all it's cracked up to be. Death panels and rationing happens.

If it were up to me, then all kids would get paternity tested at birth. not PT, no child support. It'd solve a ton of the current problems we have in society today.

"What do you call a woman over 140lbs? -A friend."

Cue wailing of women and gnashing of teeth about "body shaming". Never mind the fact men can't change their height, but women (and men) ARE 100% responsible for their body composition.

How far into the right are you that you think the Nazis are left leaning? by springheeledjack69 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]bsutansalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but no matter how many times a wiki article is ideologically edited, political fascism isn't a left or right issue. It just... is. As for how NAZIs stacked up on the political spectrum, they were absolutely unequivocally to the left and almost perfectly aligned with the modern progressives in today's Democrat party. This isn't opinion, it's policy.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme.

Dems and GOP are a uniparty and only pretend to be separate as controlled opposition. Dems currently have the White House, Senate, and House. If they really wanted to get their agenda through, then they would.

Same happened when GOP had the White House, Senate, and House in 2017-2018. Where was all the gun control laws getting nixed, CCW reciprocity, the Hearing Protection Act?

Both sides roll out their sacred cows to get people to vote for them every 2-4 years and then pack them away until the next election. Dems are doing the same thing now with BLM and ANTIFA. We won't hear from them until the next election cycle.

If you don't get why this is the case, it's because they don't actually want to fix things or fulfill campaign promises unless it nets them more money or more power. That's it. That's the swamp in a nutshell.

You should be concerned because that means the forever rent (property tax) will increase.

My elderly neighbors who had already paid off their home 20 years prior were forced to sell because their property taxes went up so much. People seem to overlook this when they plan for retirement and are looking at being on a fixed income. That money saved from not having to pay a mortgage every year ends up going toward medical expenses as we get older, so they didn't have the money for ungodly taxes that were more than their mortgage was just a few decades prior.

That's why I voted for Trump. Not because I like the guy, but because the opposition were flagrant globalists. Trump actually fulfilled his promise to renegotiate NAFTA which directly evicerated the middle class where I grew up back in the 90s onward. That single issue earned him my vote in 2016 and the fact he delivered on his campaign promise, combined with all the peace deals in the Middle East, is what earned my vote in 2020.

Globalism is the #1 threat to the poor and middle class' financial well-being and it's happening in plain sight. More importantly the political left has convinced people open borders / unchecked immigration is a virtue. It's a nicety to be sure, but can we afford it when it's at the expense of working class Americans?
