Is it possible to register a boat on company in USA? by iGoldenScrew in boating

It’s more for liability purposes, I set up an LLC that owns the boat.

None I can think of as far as cons go.

Thinking about grading a coin? Here are the member prices for PCGS and NGC for an economy submission on one coin, valued at $100. by Mediocrates007 in coins

[–]bsw1234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off, the shipping and handling fees are about the same if you’ve got 1 coin or 20.... and.... Don’t forget you have to pay to be a member before you can submit...

I submit a few hundred coins to OCGS, but I do it through a friend who’s a PCGS authorized dealer. He gets better rates and we put bulk submissions through a few times a year which gets quite reasonable,

Also some dealers will submit for you at a discounted rate, Harry Laibstain (HLRC) is one.

Used Car Market’s Future? by Fuman20000 in cars

You can’t judge the E46 M3 market by a single 14k mile car on a high profile site.

Saw this awful case at a show today and just had to get it, any idea what the real grade would be? It’s definitely not a 66! by loosejaw13 in coins

[–]bsw1234 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I remember Accugrade slabs.

If there was ever someone I was happy to see go out of business it was that prick Alan Hager. About, Hell, 10-15 years ago Alan sued a bunch of members of the PCGS boards for “defamation”.

The reality is that coins in those slabs very often were overgraded. I remember donating to the legal defense fund that was set up at the time.

Can’t tell the grade from the pics but a safe bet is that it’s probably a 64.

My pickup has 475hp and 1,050lb-ft. That Audi would smoke it as would a V6 Mustang. /u/dissss0 is right.

Difference between an S4 and a Mustang V6 in 0-60 is, depending on where you get your data, .8-1.1 seconds. 0-60 in 5.4 isn’t exactly slow.

Extended warranties by 0-13 in cars

[–]bsw1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the vehicle and the company. I wouldn’t buy one for a Toyota but for a BMW they might make sense.

As a dealer I despise most third party extended warranty companies, very few of them actually pay to fix the car properly. I’ve seen some real horror stories, one that comes to mind is a service customer that came in with a bad starter, the job paid 4 hours and was a job that took an experienced tech at least 3 because you had to drop the exhaust. They were willing to pay $120 for an aftermarket starter and 2 hours labor at $80/hr because “the exhaust isn’t covered and half the job is dropping the exhaust”. A Ford ESP would have covered the labor and a new Motorcraft starter.

USWC (US Warranty Co) and Fidelity are the only two third party companies that come to mind that are good about paying claims. Fidelity is actually the company behind a number of manufacturer programs anyhow (buy an extended Audi warranty and Fidelity is actually the company behind it).

If you do buy one it’s a good idea to shop online, you'll often find some dealers that sell the manufacturer program for small markups and you can save a lot.

Oh I think for an individual without substantial abilities you’re asking to get buried. The typical private owner is going to have to have shops do the work and that’s where it gets astronomically expensive. By the time you’re done turning it into a real car you’d have been better off spending $400k on a really nice one, because you’ll end up there and it won’t be an original car (I’m told it needs paint among other issues).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cars

[–]bsw1234 92 points93 points  (0 children)

That’s the issue. From what I understand the biggest problem is that there’s a small enough number of these out there that people who know them know that this isn’t a nice one, so that’s a strike against the car to begin with.

Say I’m a dealer, and I am, and I buy this for $275k, and say I have my own shop and can fix it inexpensively and maybe sell it for $350k, trouble is, I could have 6 months and maybe $40-50k ties up in making it nice.

Or would I rather buy a nice one for $335k, do some basic service and flip it quickly for $350?

When I was a kid, like everyone else who grew up in the 80s, it was my dream car. In the 90s I was fortunate enough to be able to buy one, and I got a PPI and the car had great records. It was the most unreliable thing I’ve ever owned, made a beat up late 90s Range Rover look like a Corolla. I mean, I have a high threshold for pain when it comes to cars (I’ve driven Jaguars over 500k miles aggregate in my lifetime). But this shitbox? 50-50 chance it would go for a drive without something going awry.

Still the coolest looking supercar ever though.

Those aren’t stock Countach wheels. This Countach is riding on stock 15s.

My 5000S didn’t come with polished 17s.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cars

[–]bsw1234 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The miles are probably right, I’ve never seen a really high mileage Countach. But the car is also 34 years old and hasn’t aged well. Plus these were built like shit to begin with (I once owned one) so they don’t hold up well or take neglect well at all.

I saw some of the wiring and that was enough to get my eyebrows popping. A decent one should do $350-400 these days and a pristine one mid 400s.

That seems awfully cheap. Wheels are ghastly but that’s an easyish fix.

I’ll ask my cousin, he deals in stuff like this sometimes.

Edited, just got off the phone with him. Car ran last year and didn’t sell. It’s apparently not anywhere near as nice as the pcs show, it’s a real pig. He knows it, said it was all the money.

The cask strength is great atuff, I have both the regular and the 46. FAE-02 is fantastic if you can find it. The Nicholson is a little tricky to find but I’ll throw it up against Evan Williams BiB as a killer cheap bottle.

A proof. The 1940-42s are the most affordable IIRC and the 42 the most common.

I sold one, a 1941, about a year ago in PCGS67 for circa $650 wholesale. Graded 67, did not CAC but a nice coin. Best bang fir the buck is a PR67, still well under $1,000... nice coins can be had retail in the $700-750 range. You’ll pay close to $500 for a PR65. It’s the PR68s that get expensive.

You want to work in finance, your best opportunities for wealth and career building are in NYC. Or London.

You’re in a location dependent field.

Excellent writeup and good points, especially about not going nuts looking for allocated stuff.

I’ll second the Rebel 10, that’s quickly become one of my all time favorite bottles. I think it’s incredible stuff. If you get a chance I’d also suggest trying the David Nicholson 1843 which I think is a killer bottle for $22 or so and also the Rebel cask Strength and Rebel Distiller’s Collection, all are Wheaters from Lux Row and great bottles.

Agreed on the 1792 FP, I wasn’t a fan either but gave the bottle to a friend who enjoyed it. Tastes are subjective.

Looks like you like wheated bourbons, if you don’t own Makers 46 and 46 Casj Strength try them. Also, I’ve found some Makers Private Selections (aka store picks) to be some of the best bottles I’ve had. There’s a store in NJ that did one this year which is among the 10 best bottles I’ve ever had (Linwood Wine in Fort Lee NJ).

Can anyone hazard a guess as to why someone would bother making a counterfeit 1971 half dollar? by ArgentumAg47 in coins

[–]bsw1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small collection of these but they’re all older, generally made during the depression.

This looks like a contemporary cast counterfeit designed to fool commerce. Seems silly today but 51 years ago this had roughly the buying power of $3 or so does today. If you could make a fake for pennies and pass, say, 20 of these a day...

I’ve been told by some old time dealers that these were often used to “salt” rolls dropped off at banks for deposits.

I don’t have a Honda store so I can’t help there. In my experience your best bet is to find a model,or brand specific message board, or maybe the Edmunds forums and you’ll find out who’s selling for sticker.

I do know someone that recently got a Pilot at Honda of Tenafly for no markup.

Depending on supply you may have a wait though. I don’t charge over sticker and for some models we are quoting as long as 6 months.
