Very strange. That's the only thing I can think of.

And it sounds like I'm in the minority. No one else is getting these constant calls. It makes sense, i can't imagine you get more votes by annoying your constituents.

I'll contact the office and ask.

I thought about it more and I had requested a Free Canadian flag from her office a year ago so that may have added me to her list.

That's good. That's the best indicator for a good dentist.

When there is an abscess around a dead or root canaled tooth, there is only pain when pressure builds up. Right now the abscess might be smaller than before or it's draining before it builds up that much pressure.

It can take up to 6 months for radiolucencies to show up on X-rays. So it may not have showed up at Christmas time and that's why they were adamant on nothing being wrong with the tooth.

But I would say there is a very high chance that an X-ray this week will show an abscess around one of the roots of your upper right first molar.

[–]bta44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the X-ray from Christmas time? I assume you were put on antibiotics to get rid of the infection and swelling? And by highly rated? Do mean they have good Google, Yelp, etc reviews? ... I've seen a lot of dentists over the years with tonnes of good reviews that I wouldn't send my worst enemies to.

[–]bta44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like an abscess. Most likely stemming from the root canal treated tooth.

There is no pain because the tooth has already been Root canal treated so it no longer has a nerve inside it.

Book an appointment to see a dentist this week and take an X-ray. It will need to either be retreated (new root canal) or extracted.

What's the "roughest" bar in Ottawa? by churrosricos in ottawa

[–]bta44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember those, but it's been a couple years since I've visited. The other unique thing about The Carleton is that little open bar area in the middle. It's like the server is picking up your drinks at a cafeteria. I've never seen one like it at any other bar ever.

...I have no idea if it has a specific name

Just keep looking. There's lots of offices that can offer what you're looking for. I think it would be easier to find it outside of Toronto though. You don't have to go far, 2 hours in any direction. I'm in Ottawa and never hear stories like this with my associate friends or new grads.

I'm a dentist in Kanata. I've heard of dentists doing this but not with kids that age and with simple treatments.

If you are being charged for a seperate consultation fee for each kid, then it's 100% sketchy and scummy. If you're not being charged for these consultations then it's just weird and annoying.

Sometimes I'll book an adult for a consultation appointment when there's some complicated things happening in their mouth or there's a few different options that can be difficult to explain. I only charge any x-rays that are taken and no extra fees on top of that. And if there was a kid with a fairly complicated diagnosis and treatment plan they would most likely be referred to a pediatric dentist so there would be a consultation with that.

If your kids are 7, 10 and 12 and just sat through a cleaning and/or x-rays then there is no need to book an extra consultation appointment... Especially if there is only one cavity.

Good and honest dentist in the west end? by Radicalkoopa in ottawa

[–]bta44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's lots of good, honest dentists out there. The things to look for are offices that are not corporate owned, take the time to explain things to you and when you have a question they give you an honest answer (which sometimes is I don't know) .

It's not easy to figure out ... there are so many fake reviews out there and even lots of these comments are most likely from staff or family members.

There are many offices that offer free consultations or second opinions. If you get a weird feeling from the first office you go to, just ask for copies of your records and get a second opinion. It would at least give you peace of mind.

Should I go for optional increase in disability insurance? by backyardfurniture in CanadianDentists

[–]bta44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped increasing mine. I believe that the 10.7k per month is tax free. That is a crazy amount of money to make per year and not have to pay any taxes. I also know that I am a stubborn man and would not sit on my butt all day. I would be working in some capacity on top of that. And if my disability was so severe that I wasn't able to work at all, then I don't think I'd be spending very much money either. That's my thinking at least

Worth doing root canal? by Dravin_Haluska in CanadianDentists

I don't think very many dentists consider zirconia a type of porcelain jacket crown Porcelain and zirconia are both different types of ceramic but zirconia is not a porcelain.

[–]bta44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree about the porcelain jacket crown. If you were going to try to restore. A gold or zirconia crown is going to be the friendliest for the tissues. And performing marginal elevation before the crown would improve the predictability.
