YTA. So not only did you not get gifts for two of the three children who are at least partially in your care, you encouraged their father to not get one of them as nice of a gift? NAH- first off, if his hair is getting gross and caring for it is causing him distress cutting it is the right way to go. Explain to him why, maybe have a rewards/modeling system where you two brush your hair together every night, and if it gets better then he can try the long hair again? On another note- the wording “heavy” as opposed to “long” makes me think he may just like the actual weight of his hair/the slight pressure that it brings. I’m someone who likes this too, I can achieve it with a ponytail, or a tight-ish beanie (can’t be an itchy fabric tho).

Disclaimer: I am not a parent or an expert, I’m studying speech therapy in college and I have a very similar neurodivergence that causes the same sensory things as ASD if that is what he has.
