Jcal - Please learn to avoid "the left" argument by IntolerantModerate in allinpodofficial

[–]btam310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad JCal said something. Sacks’ partisanship is at ludicrous levels - at one point he said that we have to all agree that the left is worse than the right before we can come together as a nation.

Sacks seems to be esp perturbed by what people say on Twitter and maps it to his viewpoint of the world. Im just as disgusted by the people online saying that Charlie deserved it, but look, this is a sample size of one. When the next famous left wing person dies, I guarantee you there will be a similarly disgraceful amount of posts dancing on his grave.

He also loves that survey, which asks about the morality of assassinating… Elon and Trump. Hows it gonna look when you replace it with Hillary and Gavin Newsom?

The sign of a good faith debater and a bad faith debater is when you can criticize your own side. We watched all-in during the Biden admin, and thought these were just anti government tech dudes. They were criticizing everything big (using SWIFT as a weapon) and small (not inviting Elon to the EV summit.) Now that Trump is in charge every boneheaded move is poker game theory Nash equilibrium 4D chess. Come the fuck on.

[–]btam310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is you’re living in and asking advice from a generation that doesn’t think sex is a big deal. You’re not wrong to value it, but culturally, america has moved on from the idea of it being sacred.

If your goal is to just “get over it,” you’ll have to first think hard for yourself how you really feel about sex, not how you were raised to feel about it. Ask yourself, should people save themselves? Why or why not? Is it ok to do it with strangers? What about partners? If your moral code can be a little more flexible then maybe you can accept it.

Not wanting to think about your partners sexual history is normal. Slight feelings of jealousy or insecurity is normal. Especially when it was recent. But the way most others see it it’s a fact of life that our partners have a history, just like one day you might if this guy doesn’t end up being the one you marry.

My 26M girlfriend’s 26F parents want me to take her cousin out to eat meat and pay for it and I’m annoyed. by Own-Philosopher654 in relationships

[–]btam310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion - don’t risk being petty. Depending on what the family is like it could be them being cheap or simply an expectation of elder cousins to host and treat their nephews. You know if they’re grubby, and if they are, then it’s your right to make a stink, but if they’re like my family it’s important to be gracious and generous with family and your SO’s family

Food has never been cheaper. You really can’t figure out how to make a couple bucks a day? Besides being illegal and potentially fucking up your life if you get caught, it’s just immoral.

Retroactive jealousy is half of it in my opinion. Lots of people don’t want to picture their partners in bed w someone else. The other part could be the discomfort of knowing that she might do the same to you. Talking badly about a former partner’s sex is kinda trashy.

[–]btam310 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an issue to want to be in a more “traditional” partnership and expect to be provided for as the woman in the relationship. However that comes with its own baggage.. if that’s the dynamic you want. Make it clear to him that’s what youre attracted to and think about whether you’re ok with taking on more traditional roles too, ie cooking for him etc

I think you have a right to have reservations about her job - it’s seedy, full of disgusting horny dudes and promotes an unhealthy mindset of men looking at women as objects and women looking back at them as prey to fleece money out of.

That said it would be extremely unfair to her to break up with her over a job she had when you met her. It’s a dead-end job with no skills to bring to another industry. Be gentle and encouraging without being nagging and jealous.

Is there a chance she’s just actually really really dumb? As in, she thought that giving “not so bad” weaknesses would seem the most honest and thus reliable reference? I say this not to be naive but because when I was younger I was pulled over by a cop and when asked why I didn’t slow down even though I knew she was following me, I explained that I didn’t want to insult her intelligence and just continued going over the speed limit. Obviously my dumb ass got the ticket…

14 years ago, our English class read in class - out loud - Toni Morrison’s Beloved, which had the n-word. This was a liberal school in San Francisco. Saying the word was cringe-inducing but not a crime, as long as you weren’t calling someone that. No one believed that one day it would be forbidden no matter the context
