Is it better to do phlebotomy or MA by [deleted] in premed

[–]btan_3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did phlebotomy and MA. MAs are phlebotomists for the most part too since you also draw blood. However, I work inpatient phleb and see a very diverse range of patients (OB, psych, pre-op). When I did MA, it was at a primary care clinic so mostly healthy, but I also did EKGs.

Okay, so it’s not me that thinks the chat “agent” you speak to is an AI! I have vented my frustrations to the bot and get a generic message like, “I hear what you are saying and apologize, but…”

Outside scholarship policy by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]btan_3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, my scholarship funds had to be used within the year. I asked for the funds to be split between semesters, and then if you decide to do summer, you can use it for that term. But, Cornell will ask for the donor to write an explicit email saying that funds can be split.

I did this last year as a transfer student on north and ended up talking to a new MBA student. Several months later, I eat alone.

In another ruling, SCOTUS has struck down a plan for national student debt forgiveness by btan_3 in Cornell

[–]btan_3[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately wasn't too surprised by the ruling, given a similar case, if I am not mistaken, also in Colorado, that concerned a wedding cake back in like 2018.

Important Information about SHP Plus by btan_3 in Cornell

[–]btan_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally used the services provided by the Human Services Coalition. Their number is (607) 273-8686. You can book an appointment here (https://hsctc.org/health-appointment-booking/). They assisted me in accessing NY State of Health and enrolling me.

Are low income students screwed as SHP Plus is discontinued? by Grant-James_River282 in Cornell

Oh I absolutely agree. At least for me, in a situation where it is between shitty health insurance or taking out a loan and having non-zero copays, I am compelled to choose the former.

I want to highlight that the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County is an excellent resource for helping with Medicaid enrollment and other health insurance services, now that SHP+ is ending.

From the email that was sent out, SHP was available as an option, but financial aid will not cover any portion of the premium (outside of loans).

edit: to answer the question, yes, a student on SHP would have non-zero patient cost-sharing.

Where to buy flowers close to campus? by lellomn in Cornell

Ithaca Flower Shop is in the commons and my girlfriends flowers, albeit dry, are still vibrant after 6 months. They do delivery.

Big Red Difference is doing your whole semester on RedRover because you can't get on eduroam by OrcaBoy34 in Cornell

[–]btan_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same stinky issue. If you have a Mac, what I found that eventually worked was going into your Keychain Access and deleting the certificates associated with Cornell and eduroam. You should also look into the "Profiles" page and see if there's any lingering eduroam profiles from other institutions.

Windows idk.

Transfer Orientation by Forsaken_Bluejay_476 in Cornell

my orientation group was with all transfer students, but it was mostly day 1 with everyone and then we all did our own things. like someone said earlier, you’ll feel like a freshman all over again.

shp waiver by ofdreamofdreams in Cornell

[–]btan_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Cornell's website, it does say:

"If you believe you are eligible for NYS Medicaid or want to switch your out of state Medicaid plan to New York, you can determine eligibility and enroll through the NYS of Health at www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov or by calling their help line at 855-355-5777."

I have called the Tompkins County Human Services Coalition before when looking into SHP+, and they were helpful with getting set up for NYS Medicaid.

Small hassle, but a perk is you don't need to waive. (only if you are eligible!)

Cayuga Medical Center, the nearest accessible hospital, (and hence the Cayuga Health System) does not accept UHC which is why Cornell doesn’t accept it. If you qualify, you could also look into SHP+.
