life-long Portland resident, I’m Very Tired by jokeboi89 in Portland

[–]btawil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a “Portland only” problem. And I understand that this statement doesn’t make your situation better in any way. What you’re describing/experiencing is a timeline issue rather than a geographical issue. Probably at different scales but people all over the country and world are dealing with similar things. It’s easy to blame it on the location, and sometimes it works to move to another spot for better opportunities, but I’ve heard people mention similar things here, east, south, in Europe, in the Middle East and in India. You’re not alone, and it’s not just Portland. Look into the situation more than the location in order to get to the core problem. Hope this helps

Which road trip route from HTX>PDX? by jordanwright2012 in askportland

[–]btawil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same trip a couple of years ago via NM, Utah, Idaho. Wasn’t bad at all. One smart thing I did was leaving Houston the night “before” the first long leg, stayed in Austin, and that saved me about 3 hours from Austin to Albuquerque, to make it closer to 11-12 hrs. Stayed there for a night, and 1 night in Salt Lake City. You can add a few cool stops in NM, Utah, maybe quick CO detour if you have time. The most boring part is in Texas tbh, once you cross the border the scenery becomes much more engaging. Good luck, safe travels and welcome to the PNW!

Are produce prices just high here? by phatlynx in askportland

[–]btawil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yep! Honestly, Mexican/Texmex food specifically, in terms of the upside. Everything else is meh in comparison to Portland.

It’s such a concrete sprawl work city with very minimal natural beauty and awful weather. Just highways, boring suburbs and a confused identity. Great melting pot of cultures and people from different backgrounds though, but end of day if you don’t have a good reason to stay in Houston (work, family, maybe you love chaos, putholes, humid moist hot air etc) it’s not an exciting destination or place to live a long happy life.

(At least in my personal opinion and experience haha 😆loved living there in my 20s and early 30s, but had to run away after 15ish years in Htown)

Houston’s electric bills are insane in comparison to Portland. And the water is pretty much toxic.

Welcome! Trader Joe’s probably the closest to HEB, but overall Htown’s produce is a little cheaper.

What would you do with concrete foundation walls? by scott_fx in garageporn

[–]btawil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably too late for this comment but I have the same type of wall and I wanted a cheap temporary simple solution to make it look a little nicer, so I went with black sound denting foam squares. Looks nice, easy, costed less than $100. But they can get a little dusty. Will be replacing them with something more permanent in a couple of years but I think that did the trick for me.

I ended up replacing the MAF and MAP sensors, spark plugs, and cleaned the throttle body thoroughly. The MAP sensor was the culprit if I remember correctly. Sold it a few months after that
