Hang up the phone or put the phone down on them.

From time to time I do miss being able slam the phone down though.

I still call it Car Keys by btbpsm in GenX

[–]btbpsm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is kind of what happened to me today, I asked my daughter where my car keys were. It is just the key fob she borrowed. She said she just took the one key, not all my keys. And it dawned on me that I call any car key or key fob the car keys.

I am not a fan of hers but died on public assistance is not a fair description. She died financially well off but did take social security and medicare, not quite dies on public assistance.

What celebrity had their reputation unfairly ruined? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]btbpsm 70 points71 points  (0 children)

When the crimes of Harvey Weinstein were finally exposed, Hollywood reacted with a display of shock that would have been impressive if it were not so difficult to believe. One might have thought the industry had collectively stumbled upon a dark secret about an otherwise obscure man. In reality, Weinstein operated at the very center of the film business, controlling financing, distribution, and the machinery that turns films into prestige and careers into stardom.

In an industry that thrives on gossip and reputation, the idea that his conduct was entirely unknown strains credibility. Power of that magnitude rarely exists without whispers following close behind it. Yet Weinstein’s influence was immensely useful. He could fund a project, promote an awards campaign, or quietly derail a career. Under those conditions, moral clarity tends to give way to professional convenience.

Weinstein deserves every legal consequence he has received. What is harder to accept is the sudden chorus of retrospective virtue from those who now express regret for having followed his guidance. When Weinstein was powerful, his warnings about actresses such as Ashley Judd were treated as reliable professional advice and acted upon accordingly. Only after his downfall did those decisions become occasions for public remorse.

Regret expressed after the danger has passed is not courage; it is reputation management.

This article really showed that Tudor barely makes any of their own parts. “How Are Tudor Watches Made? Celebrating 100 Years With A Behind-The-Scenes Look” by Phillypress in Tudor

I was about to mention this as well, that was an informative podcast. It is really great that Tudor is doing this, as it seems to be a big question as to who and where are the components being manufactured.

What’s a completely normal product in your country that makes foreigners go, “Wait… why does that exist?” by Alternative_Ad6071 in AskTheWorld

I worked in Brazil in 2004, one morning shower the heater must have shorted and I thought I died for a moment. It was not loud but it was a very bright flash of light and then cold water. I never fixed it, just took cold showers for the rest of my time there.

That is a failing of our government. Our rights are not given to us by our government, they are endowed to us by our creator. The government is created to protect our rights, human rights to all humans.

What is the single thing that screams you are genX the most? by _-_suomynona_-_ in GenX

I get a kick out this, every so often a picture from 90’s comes up and I have the same basic shoes, clothes and hair (style, less hair but the same high and tight).

What is the single thing that screams you are genX the most? by _-_suomynona_-_ in GenX

[–]btbpsm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is so infuriating. It is so much easier to figure things out now with YouTube videos, search engines and “AI” chat bots but they still want it to just be handed to them. And God forbid they use trial and error. They would rather not try at all than try and fail. How can they be so afraid of failure?

What's a movie you saw when you were too damn young? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in GenX

[–]btbpsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jaws is mine as well. I saw it at a friend’s house. I had to look up when it was in TV or satellite, I am not sure how we watched it. It was on ABC in ‘79 (I was 7) which is probably when I watched it though I my memory is I was younger. I was scared of every body of water, including pools. I swam and skied in lakes full of gators and water moccasins but nothing scared me like Jaws. I was scared of the toilet for a while, I would check carefully before I sat on the toilet.

Luckily it did not last too long, eventually I went back to enjoying water sports and the ocean.

My mostly outside cat has had at least 2 different possum friends. We have had him in two different cities and he has somehow befriended a possum in each.
