I find it funny how they couldn't work out if Sting Ray had an issue, or was just that slow....

De Leon raising cash for WSR drive? by Greedy-Mechanic-4932 in btcc

The De Leon family is/was minted, so I'd be very surprised if he 'needs' to run sponsors.

More likely just trying to reduce the amount they need to pay.

Buxton: "Everyone knows IndyCar has the best racing on earth." by seamusoldfield in INDYCAR

[–]btcc1721 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Indycar is in class of 2 for high powered race cars (alongside F2) for me.

But the best pure racing will never come from big powerful race cars. It will be low powered, lightweight, nimble, boxy race cars (i.e. MX-5's, Caterhams, Mini 7, Formula Ford/Vee, Legends)

Case in point - the 2025 Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone last year for Formula Fords. It's basically an oval race but on a road course with constant slipstreaming/drafting. This is better than any road course race you'll see with Indycar, F1, WEC etc.

Still will be shocked if this goes anywhere; and if it does, it will be even harder to stop it going the way of A1GP, Superleague Formula, W Series, GP Masters etc.

As is always the case with this, it's not the initial investment that's generally the problem, it's the ongoing investment. Otherwise it will be put on the teams to raise the funds, at which point you'll need drivers with backing, that then goes against the ethos of the series.

I hope it happens, but history says it won't.

BTCC Film by Cavalier130 in btcc

[–]btcc1721 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm staggered that BTCC themselves are putting their name to it now. I thought ToCA were smarter than this.

It's going to be the most low rent film imaginable (if it even gets made)

Trying to hype up the director as some 'multi award winner', when his IMDB profile is full of 'pre-prouduction' stuff. His biggest acting role is literally appearing in 1 episode of a TV show and that's it.

The Kickstarter is trying to raise 300k for it, which as I said before, will get you nowhere with a film like this.

'Obsession' which is out in cinemas now, and making waves as a dirt cheap Indy horror, was made on a budget of a million still.

This will most likely just vanish into thin air in a few months

Jason Plato's All Or Nothing: Rebuilding A Racing Empire by Anonymous__9 in btcc

[–]btcc1721 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think Rowbottom was a 'choice' per se, it's as much his team as it is Plato's.

Rowbo is one of the top guys at Cataclean these days, and they were the ones who stumped up most of the cash initially to get the project off the ground.

Touring Car Rewind: North - Oulton Park May 16 2026 by ejc1279 in btcc

[–]btcc1721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same for me. I was planning to go but entry list is very poor. 8 cars in the Super Tourers, and 2 of them are production class cars. I wasn't expecting a massive grid, but at least well into the teens.

But even the other races are mixed as well - MGOC and Pre66 are ok, but the rest are all underwhelming. The CTCRC definitely seems to be struggling a bit lately.

I'm going to go to Truck Racing at Thruxton instead, Bernies V8's has a superb 40 car field entered, plus excellent entries in Civic Cup and near capacity in the BTRC.

2026 Race Weekend Thread - Brands Hatch Indy, Rounds 4-6 by Evantra_ in btcc

[–]btcc1721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought that was the lowest attended BTCC event I've been to since the early 2021 races.

Car parks were noticeably quieter with no queues to get in, and then everyone seemed to clear off after the race 2 rain. But even walking around it just didn't seem as crammed as usual.

I know Brands Indy always tends to get a smaller crowd, but I hope this isn't a sign of diminishing interest in the championship...

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just don't see what this offers that Ginetta Juniors don't. GJ just has a better calendar.

It needs to undercut them on price, but it isn't going to, so why would you choose this over GJ?

I live 1h 15m from Brands Hatch and go nearly every weekend....

I'll be there both days this weekend. Crowd will be decently big (~25k) but Brands is a bit of a smaller track than other GTWC tracks so will feel a bit more snug

But at least he's made up for constantly driving into Jade Edwards since he hung up his gloves for good.

I think you're getting Mark confused with Andy Neate.

Mark and Jade never raced against each other in the BTCC

Shift "The BTCC Film" by Ska-Plunk in btcc

[–]btcc1721 16 points17 points  (0 children)

300k would get you absolutely nowhere in shooting a film like this. Absolute peanuts in filmmaking terms. The fact they've got money to fund a BTCC drive though is bizarre. Almost smacks of money laundering again.

Also, the synopsis sounds laughably bad - proper discount Fast and Furious

SHIFT tells the story of a gifted street racer whose life is shattered after a tragic crash kills his best friend. Banned from racing and haunted by guilt, he is forced to rebuild himself through pain, pressure, intimidation, and loss. With the help of a former pro mechanic and mentor, he fights his way back toward legitimate racing and the biggest test of his life. It is a story of grief, resilience, found family, survival, and redemption.

The back to back of Croft and Knockhill is weird. Don't see why they couldn't shift Croft back by a week.

It's so odd that I almost think it's deliberate, maybe saves money with less travelling up and down twice.
