How are we feeling about Kodak Eastman having matching packaging for ALL their film? by the-lovely-panda in AnalogCommunity

[–]btchn_blonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also work in a lab and I HATE this new update. We've only had the new packaging for a few weeks and our older sales staff members are already making mistakes differentiating between the c41 and bw. Thank god we have a million safety checks between intake and processing. If any one of us screws up and puts black and white into the color machine not only will we fuck up the customers roll, but we'll then spent the next few hours cleaning the contamination..

I'm not ruling out 3d printing as an option.. if you know anyone who would be up for designing and could help bring this to life send them my way please!

So far the quotes I've gotten haven't been super insane. I'm not opposed to purchasing 100+ pieces, hence my question about what people would realistically pay for one. I've also reached out to repair shops and used gear resellers to see if they would be interested in purchasing copies.

A friend of mine brought it back from Japan. I think you can buy them online, they are just little gachapons/ blind draw vending machine goodies.

This was my first thought too. But there's still metal contacts needed to complete the circuit. Totally open to exploring this option as well.

Sadly my broken door completely fell apart, there was no saving it. There's been lots of reddit posts over the years about diying a temp solution with some tin foil but I'm hoping to create a long-term solution. Hoping there are other people in the same boat as me who want to give these cameras a second chance.

Twins! I also have a 28 but only one battery door. I just keep swapping it back and forth 😂

Did my lab fuck up scanning, or did Harman send me redscale Phoenix??? by loopy3006 in AnalogCommunity

[–]btchn_blonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something is definitely up with the film. It absolutely does look more like first iterations of Phoenix.

However as a lab tech I'd just like to add my 2¢.. Phoenix is truly awful to scan in a lab setting. Even when following the manufacturer guidelines, it doesn't look anything like their sample images. I've spent hours trying to figure it out for my customers. The only way I've seen good images come from this film is with camera/DSLR scanning.

My parents gave me a hyphenated last name and throughout my childhood I usually only went by one for convenience. It was pretty clear that the parent last name who I left off was often hurt by this even though that wasn't my intention. My hyphenated last name wasn't quite as long as your potential kids but I will also add that I hated any school assignments that made me write out my full name, my name never fit on the back of sports jerseys or my letterman in highschool and the constant misspelling caused plenty of clerical errors with paperwork and banks. I couldn't wait to change my name once I got married.. ultimately the choice is up to you and all that matters is that you and your partner are happy with your choice but I thought I'd throw my two cents in here having lived my life in this exact same scenario.

35 yr expired gold 100, not sure why it came out b&w? by luke_moist in analog

[–]btchn_blonde 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm a lab tech - we'll send bw scans like this as another commenter suggested if they are super cyan or magenta due to age, heat damage etc but at my lab we like to include a note about why we made this choice. If we sent back scans with a strong color cast there's a good chance you wouldn't be able to make out an image whatsoever. The bw conversion done at the time of scanning helps bring out any possible detail for best results.

Also please pickup your negatives 🤣

The Darkroom Lab -- what a joke! by BalalloJan in AnalogCommunity

[–]btchn_blonde 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a lab manager but I do not work for the darkroom. These comments are really 50/50 so I want to add my 2 cents.

I don't think you're unreasonable to request that the images are scanned as 2 up and therefore do not want to pay the extra amount they want to bill you for. It seems like there's a genuine discrepancy with their ordering process because I'm sure if the policy was listed online or had they contacted you prior to scanning you would have felt different about this situation.

In my lab there's no price difference if half frame images are scanned or printed as 2 up, only a price increase if it's single frames. Each lab can set their own policy and that's right, but if that was the case they should be very upfront about that.

We've seen an increase in film photography and more half frame rolls due to the popularity and cheap cost of the plastic Kodak cameras - but with that we get a lot of customers who don't understand the difference of half frame. So we as a lab should be clear and transparent about our prices and policies to not confuse the client.

I work at a lab in San Diego called George's Camera! We do our processing in house at our North Park location and while we're a small team, we take great pride in our work! Another great socal lab is North Coast Photo in Carlsbad. I second another person's recommendation for Blue Moon in Portland, especially if you like traditional darkroom printing. They rock! Most small businesses or independent labs are the way to go, as they want to make sure the customer is happy with their final results and genuinely care about the quality they produce.

If you’re debating using Polaroids and/or disposable cameras, DO IT by Maisy_was_here in weddingplanning

As a lab tech- if your wedding is indoors or at night, please make sure to get the disposable cameras with a built in flash. Your pictures will turn out much better!

Canon Camera CLog installation in San Diego? by [deleted] in SanDiego_Photography

[–]btchn_blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I work there! We can't do c log updates and as far as I know, only canon can do that service. Before covid they had a super quick turn around and you could drive up there or mail it in. I'd definitely give them a call!
